Jack looked down at his feet awkwardly, afraid to look up in fear of Mark's mom stabbing him or doing something mean. He knew going in it wasn't going to be good, but his mother had such a solemn look on her face it was scary.

He heard Mark sigh, sounding defeated, which made Jack's mood go down because why was he giving up already? Mark already sounded like he was over it and he and his mom hadn't even spoken a word to each other yet.

She was just running around the kitchen, in complete silence with a stone cold face, while the pair of boy were sitting behind the counter, holding hands where Mark's mother couldn't see. Mark squeezed his boyfriends hand every once in awhile when his mood and thoughts got the best of him, in an attempt to calm himself down. And it worked.

"Mom-"

"Mark I just," His mother interrupted him, genuinely upset with the fact that he brought another boy home, "I thought you learned the first time," She said sadly, making Mark frown.

"Mom, Tyler was a mistake-"

"No Tyler was a sign," His mother interrupted again, making Mark sadder by the seconds, "He showed you that being intimate with the same gender, will not work."

"Mom," Mark laughed humorlessly, "You say that as if every single heterosexual relationship is perfect!" He said, his voice loud because of how sad and annoyed he was.

"Don't raise your voice at me," His mother threatened, making him laugh again.

"Don't disregard my sexuality!" He yelled back, trying his best to control himself but this was his mom. His mom was supposed to love him and support him no matter what, not shame him because he wasn't what she expected him to be.

"Mark," She sighed, looking at Jack who was staring worriedly at the countertop in front of him, "Boys are no good for you," She said softly, watching as Jack looked up at the boy next to him with a sad smile.

"Mark," He whispered quietly, not expecting his mother to hear, making the red haired boy look down at him, "She's wrong," He said, making Mark's mom hold a slightly shocked expression on her face, "I know she is because last time I checked," He still spoke in a whisper, "This boy right here is pretty good for you,"

Mark laughed through his nose and smiled down, looking at something that his mother couldn't see.

Which was their hands linked together.

Mark looked up into his boyfriends eyes, smiling because of how god damn pretty the boy was, inside and out. Jack made hopeless situations pretty, and that was fucking amazing to Mark. Jack made things good.

Jack suddenly beamed Mark a huge smile, tightening his grip on his hand, "Is there an ice cream shop nearby?!" He asked excitedly, wanting to go out and get some because he knew that it would make Mark happy to eat something sweet.

"Yeah, a few blocks down," Mark said, remembering going there with his brother, and his friends and-

He stopped thinking and zoned back in on the adorable, small-waisted boy in front of him, who was bouncing excitedly, not even realizing he was.
