Juniper;
"It's just around the corner, you can take her to nurse Janice as soon as you get in."
I feel as if I'm withered to the bone, my near limp body hangs over Carl's shoulders barely taking steps.
The scorching sun has made me weak, our lack of food and water has taken its toll, not only on me but on Carl as well.
The poor boys tired lips are chapped and bleeding and his remaining eye is bloodshot and sunken in. Sweat clings to his clothes and his hair hangs in a mangled mess under his hat.
He believes I need this, that I need a place to stay, a place to clear my thoughts.
I believe he may need it more than I do.
"Don't bet on it."
Nathan leads us into a dark makeshift tunnel underneath a large building, the huge doors to the tunnel are drenched in what looks like rotten jam.
"We do this to keep the growlers away, it blends in with their smell so they ignore it." Nathan states as he motions towards the walker-gut covered doors. "Come on in,"
He pulls open the heavy, bloody doors and leads us into a dark and large room with a stench similar to the doors.
We're walking on a silver spray painted path illuminated by small fairy lights on the ground. Surrounding the path is a fence reaching about eight feet high.
To my left a walker slams it's body into the fence, making it creak.
"Also to keep the unwanted ones out."
The fact that this place seems prepared to survive a horde, gives me a feeling that the people inside don't. They don't know what we've been through. They don't know what hardships we've had.
They may not have even seems walker.
"How long has this place been around?" I pipe up my voice through the growling dead ones.
"As a general building or a safe haven?"
"Safe haven."
"Well it's been around since it's started, what you're walking through right now used to be the lobby. And nearly all those growlers over there, were workers or guests at the hotel. Our leader, Miss Janice, also our nurse, use to be at this hotel nearly every weekend for conferences at the CNN center."
"What were you to this place?" Carls voice chimes in from beside me.
"I was a guest. Staying on a business trip. Then shit all went down."
