Safe for Now....

Rescued

Land was probably 5 miles away, so it would take a few hours. I decided to take as few breaks as possible. I skipped over the little rocks and stopped to rest only on the bigger rocks. After approximately 5 hours it was getting dark. My watch read 8:30PM. Soon the sharks would be out and wouldn't hesitate for a bite to eat. I stopped on a huge rock, dried my eyes, and looked forward towards land. I saw a light it was small not big enough to b land but I still saw light. It was a boat light.




"Hey!! Help!! Please over here!!" I screamed.




"Hello is there someone there?" I hear in a very soft tone.




"Yes!! Hello!! Over Here!!" I yelled while waving my arms up and down.




"We see you! Sit tight we are coming!" I heard while a light was shown at.




Ya ok like I'm going to go anywhere in the middle of the water. I was glad the boat saw me. When the boat got to me there were 4 men in it. One was our boat driver. His clothes were wet and cut up and he looked like the walking dead with his eyes blood shot and his body looked grayish (well his skin looked grayish) and shaky. The other three men were wearing blue uniforms with words Coast Guard on the back. They were young around 28-35 maybe.




"Are you one of 4 shipwrecked?". Asked one.




"Yes, I'm Alice Granger and my siblings are still back there. I went to get help because my little sister Zara is unconscious and my little brothers arm is broken and severely cut.". I said somewhat calm but there was a hint of panic in my voice.




"Eddie go make sure we have the necessary tools to help with this situation of her siblings." one said as he helped me in the boat. "Keep an eye out for you family ok."




I nodded and walked to the front of the boat. I turned my head when the boy named Eddie came back with the answer to the ones question. "yes but we may have to take umm what's her name oh Zara to the hospital."




I hadn't noticed but Eddie looked around my age (14). I guess it's because he looks really strong. He had beautiful blue eyes that sparkled in the moonlight and his hair was blonde with light brown highlights.




"So your name is Alice." Eddie said. "Mines Eddie."




I jumped startled by his voice. " Oh god. you scared me." I said.




"Sorry didn't mean to." he said.




"You're fine it's just that I'm a little jumpy." I said.




"I get that you should be after everything you've been through." he said.




"You have no idea." I said.




"What do you mean?" he asked.




"Well umm....." what was I going to say I couldn't tell him a shadow was after us and it made out house explode. "nothing. So not to be rude or anything or creepy but how old are you you don't seem old enough to work?"




"No I'm 14 and a volunteer." he said smiling with a little laugh.




"Oh that's cool I didn't know you could volunteer at 14." I said somewhat fascinated.




"Ya I didn't either." there was a long pause until he said something again. "So is this your first time in Bermuda." he asked?




"Yes." I replied.




"Well I'd be happy to show you around the island, if you'd like." Eddie suggested.




"I don't know my brother and sisters will most likely have to come to if that's alright." I said.




"That's ok but one day you should come without them like in a date." He said.




"I don't know. Our mom just died and our dad is an alcoholic so Seth, my brother, and I are responsible for Sydney and Zara. So I probably won't have time." I said.




"Oh I'm so sorry about your mother." Eddie said. "that's got to be ruff."




"Yes my sisters are very sad, especially my 5 year old sister Sydney. She was torn." I said.




That's the last thing I said to Eddie before I saw them. I told one I the men and they pulled over to the rock. Zara was still unconscious and Seth's arm had gotten worse. Eddie picked up Zara and brought he onboard. One of the coast Guard workers examined her an the other examined Seth's arm. Eddie handed Sydney some bandaids and disinfectant spray. I felt bad all my siblings got hurt even Sydney with her cuts and I was right next to her holding her. I would have rather have been knocked out and them not hurt. I Tried to keep them safe and it just got them hurt.




"Alice will you help me put on my bandaids?" Sydney asked.




"Sure." I said. "You should take a nap on the way back."




"Ok will you sing me a lullaby like mommy used to?" she asked.




"Of course." I said taking her in my arms.

"go to sleep. Go to sleep. Go to sleep my darling. Close your eyes the sun has gone down, no one can hurt you now. You and I'll be safe and sound." I sang to her.




"Pretty song. where did you learn it." Eddie asked.




"My mom used to sing it to us." I said.
