Surprisingly he didn’t say anything. I thought he would at least laugh but instead he just sat there. He had an understanding look on his face and his eyes moved around looking at different parts of my face. He seemed like he was trying to figure how to explain something to me.

“Are you going to say anything or are you just going to let me sit her feeling like an idiot?” I asked.

He stayed silent for a few more seconds before he spoke again. “I don’t think you’re crazy. I believe you.”

“Really?” I said a little skeptical. Why would he believe me just like that? I barely believed my mom when she told me. I feel like he’s playing a joke on me and is going to burst out into laughter or say something like and I rode a unicorn the other day to. I was unprepared for what he said next.

“I believe you because that happened to me to. The only difference is I know who the master, or the person who controls the shadow, is. It’s my half-brother Dereck. It sounds like I know more about what’s happening to us then you do to.”

I was speechless. I couldn’t believe that the first person I met that was from Bermuda was someone like me. I should have guessed that there were others like us in Bermuda since this is the only place you can escape the shadows. I just thought the chances were slim since I doubt there are a lot of those shadows running around.

“No I don’t know a lot about the shadows and the master.” It was strange that he called it a master. Where did he find all this stuff out at? “Could you explain where they come from and why they are after us to me?”

“Well first of all shadows are made of anger. If people have enough anger bottled up inside them that creates shadows if they don’t let it out somehow.”  He began. “The person who creates the shadow can then control it. They can command it to do whatever they want. In our case the shadows masters commanded them to kill us.”

“Why did Dereck do that? He’s your half-brother, didn’t he care about you?” I asked.

“He did care about my sister and I until my mom died. He just kinda snapped. He was madder at me then Scarlet. She got caught in the middle because Dereck knows the best way to get to me was to kill or hurt the people I love.” Eddie said. “You know how you said know things like a sixth sense.” I nodded. “Well Dereck has that to. He has always been able to sense when I get close to someone. One of my girlfriends left Bermuda on a vacation and the day after she left she turned up dead. Dereck sent me a letter and with a picture in it of her and I. The picture that she carried in her purse. That’s how I know he killed her.”

“That’s awful!” I said.

“That’s why I have trouble getting close to people. Lately it’s been hard for me not to get close to someone.” Eddie admitted.

“Really who?” I asked. If what Seth said was right that means that it was me.

“Well um… It’s…” He was hesitating so that pretty much confirmed my suspicions. “I didn’t want to get to close to you.”

“Didn’t?” I ask. That’s past tense. This means he could have changed his mind.

“Yeah but now that I know you won’t or can’t leave I don’t feel like I have to anymore.” He said. He was right we can’t leave so he doesn’t have to worry about me leaving and getting killed by Dereck.

“So what are you saying?” I’m trying to get him to either ask me to go out with him or at least give me some indication he would want to later when we know each other a little better.

“I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’d like to go out with you sometime Alice.” Eddie’s cheeks blushed when he said it. I think it’s cute that he did.

“I would love to.” I told him.

Eddie’s face lit up like a candle. I guess he didn’t realize I liked him to. Seth was right and I was no longer mad at him for inviting Eddie over without asking me first or at least telling me.

“Oh yeah, your brother wanted to talk to me.” Eddie remembered.

“Ok I’ll get him.” I said.

I walked into the room I shared with Seth. He was standing in front of the door arms crossed with the “I told you so” look on his face. He was listening to our conversation the entire time.

Seth walked out and started talking to Eddie. I stayed in my room and sat on the bed. I had no interest in what they were talking about. I don’t even think Seth really needed to talk to him at all. They still talked for a good hour. I got up and came out of the room. Seth and Eddie were sitting on the couch; they looked up at me then continued their conversation. I went into Sydney and Zara’s room to make them go to bed. It was late passed their bedtime to and they had to get up for school in the morning.

When I came back out Eddie was on his way out. Seth went into Sydney and Zara’s room to tell them goodnight and I said goodbye to Eddie.

“Well you can sleep at night now knowing that they have been safe here for a while. Which means we will be to.” Seth said closing the bedroom door.

“When are you going to get it through your thick head that I will always be worried about you and those munchkins in there?” I asked.

“Well I can see why you worry about them but there’s no need to worry about me.” He said.

“Yes there is Seth. You are my only fully biological sibling and family I have left. You and I are so close; closer than any siblings have ever been and I don’t want to lose you.” I said.

“Well it’s nice to know I’m well taken care of.” He said.

We went into the living room and watched a movie. The movie was Cheaper by the Dozen. I remember watching this when I was little, it’s so funny. Seth and I laughed a lot but tried to keep it down or we would wake the girls. It was a family moment that rarely happened because when it was just Seth, mom, dad, and I our parents were fighting to much to watch a movie. Then the girls came around and we didn’t get much quiet or relaxation in.

When the movie ended Seth and I went to bed. Not long after we did I heard tapping on the window that was next to my bed. I got up and opened the curtains. It was Eddie. He was standing outside my window to get me to go with him somewhere. He told me to meet him at Harrington Sound then he ran off in that direction.  So I got up threw on some jeans and a t-shirt.  It was about 10:40 when I got to the Sound.

“So what did you want to talk about?” I asked sitting down next to him.

“Well you said you didn’t know who controlled the shadows. I can help you with that.” He explained.

“Really?!” I said hopefully.

“Yeah, and I brought a picnic basket so we can have a moonlight picnic.” He said pulling it out from beside him. I didn’t even notice it there.

“Sounds perfect.” I said.

As we ate Eddie asked me a series of questions. Some were questions I didn’t think would matter. He had a pen and notepad and wrote some stuff down as I answered the questions. I still would like to know where he learned about all this stuff but it didn’t really matter as long as I got some answers. When he finished he gave me two possible people and I knew exactly which of the two it was. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before. I thanked Eddie when we were about to leave and sprinted to the apartment.

“SETH! Seth wake up! I know who the shadow master is!”
