Just A Friend

I walked towards Kōusei's house with a bright smile plastered on my face. I had just come from the mall, where I had bought a few items to surprise Kōusei. Skipping slightly ready to hang out with Kōusei and take care of him since the poor guy had been sick.
I walked up to Kōusei's home knocking a few times waiting outside patiently while rocking back and forth. I waited for a few minutes waiting for someone to answer the door, but Kōusei didn't come down stairs. I sighed.
"He's probably in his bed listening to music or something," I told myself opening the unlocked door that Kōusei always forgets to lock. Seriously, he will get robbed one day if he keeps leaving his door unlocked.
I opened the door and walked in closing the door behind me and locking it. I placed the bags that held the magic one and chocolate I bought for Kōusei at the mall onto the shoe shelf. Then I took of my shoes jumping slightly on one foot while taking off my shoe on the opposite foot. After I had taken them if I placed them into the cubbies of the shoe shelf and took back the bag from atop the shoe shelf and ran up the stairs towards Kōusei's room.
I slightly skipped towards the door at the end of the short hallway. I stopped right in front of his room only to hear chatter and slight laughter. Behind the door. I frowned slightly since one of the voices was defiantly a males which is probably Kōusei's voice, and the other one was familiar feminine voice. I frowned, but none the less I started to reach for the door knob.
Right when I was about to place my hand onto the door knob the door was swung open an I quickly pulled my hand back in surprise. Apparently the person opening the door didn't see me and pumped into me.
"Oh, sorry," came the all too familiar voice of Kaori. I looked at her staring her right in her sparkling eyes, but her smile was hiding something else. I just couldn't put my finger on it, but I just brushed it off.
"Hey Kaori, and it's fine," I gave her a cheeky close-eyed grin. She just replied with a wider grin and bid goodbye to Kōusei. Kōusei's eyes seemed to be sparkling at Kaori's retreating silhouette as he waved bye with a slight smile as well.
When Kaori left Kōusei's eyes just seemed to become dull again, but he still threw a smile towards me. The same fake smile that he used to try and cheer me up when we were kids.
I closed the door and placed the plastic bag down sitting down next to Kōusei. I looked towards him giving him a smile, "Hey Kōusei, what you been up to?" I asked him.
"Kaori just came over to help me with my cold," he mumbled as he lay back down staring back at the ceiling. I smiled down at him trying to brighten up the awkward atmosphere, but I don't think he noticed or cared enough to pay attention.
"Do you came here for something, right?" The black haired male asked which had snapped me out of my trance. I nodded and bounced up towards the bag that I had payed down. I turned around and sat back down next to Kōusei who was now sitting upwards.
"Welp, I brought you medicine, and chocolate, aaaaaaaand... Hm let's see what else is in here," I started to search through the bag trying to find something.
"You mean you forgot what you bought?" Kōusei sweat dropped, but I just brushed him off and started to search for the picture.
A few seconds after searching I found the picture and shoved it in Kōusei's facing hoping he'd like it. "See?! It's a picture of me, you, and Watari when we were kids, and look your mom and the there's Miss Seto next to her," I smiled brightly at Kōusei jumping in slight eagerness at his reply.
Kōusei's eyes seemed to soften a little bit at seeing the picture, but then all of a sudden tears started to fall from his eyes. I looked at him in shock and worry. What did I do? Was it because of his mother? Uh, Uh, what am I supposed to do?! I was having a panic attack in my head till I heard Kōusei's laughter fill my ears. I looked at him in confusion.
"K-Kōusei, are you okay?" I asked worried and slightly confused at his sudden change in his emotions. He just chuckled and nodded.
"Y-Yeah," he said smiling at me, but this one was...genuine. It wasn't forced or fake, it was an actual genuine smile that I haven't seen for such a long time. And he had been smiling because of me. Me! I grinned at Kōusei in return, but I had still been confused about the tears that had still been dropping down his cheeks.
"But then why are you crying?" I asked him tilting my head slightly plopping down once again next to him.
"Don't worry, they're...they're tears of joy," Kōusei replied hugging me as tears wetted my shoulder. I had been taken aback by the sudden action, but I smiled non the less and returned it.
"Thank you," Kōusei whispered hugging me tighter.
My face had probably looked confused at that moment to be honest, "For what?" I asked him.
"For being my friend, and always being there for me," he told me sighing in tiredness. I guess he had been tired out by the cold he was having. We soon let go still smiling, but mine was now a forced one. I hopped he didn't notice that, honestly I don't want him to know about my feelings yet.
"I should get going before mom yelled at me," I informed Kōusei looking out the window to see it had become dusk.
Kōusei nodded and escorted me down the stairs towards the shoe shelf. I took out my shoes from the shoe shelf cubby and placed them on my feet, this time sitting on top of the shoe shelf and putting them on again one by one. I soon finished at opened the door.
"Well hope you feel better soon," I told him while staring to open the door.
"Thank you Tsubaki, you really are a great friend," I froze at the word friend, but forced a smile on my face once again and headed out of the house.
"Yeah...just a friend..." I sighed opening the door to my house entering and then locking the door.
