Chapter 51- Good vs. Evil has areas of grey.
Guardonian Earth-base: 03:00 hours-
Lacerta couldn't sleep; baby 'bean' as they had affectionately nicknamed their unborn child was attempting to disrupt her rest as much as possible--almost as if he were complaining about their new living quarters.
Placing a gentle kiss on Deus's cheek, leaving him to sleep as much as he could before battle began, she scribbled a short note : 'Darling, have gone for a stroll. Don't worry, I will be close by. I love you and baby bean loves you. L.xxx" and softly pulled on her robe and slippers as she quietly sneaked out of the bedroom.
Considering the apartment was only a temporary base, it was relatively comfortable, althoughof course it wasn't home.
Pouring a glass of ice cold milk and grabbing a handful of the oatmeal cookies she had craved since baby bean's existence was confirmed, she snuck a large tub of peanut butter ice cream out of the freezer too; ordinarily the mixture would turn her stomach, but for now it was heavenly.
Lacerta wandered along the corridor, not paying much attention to her surroundings, seemingly lost in thought.
Making her way to the working lifts, she decided to investigate the rest of the building as she had been napping for most of the evening, apart from when Deus delivered the scroll; this part of her evening was spent pacing the apartment, with the tv on for distraction and both Kirsty and Laura popping in to make sure she was coping--she was certain that Deus somehow had a hand in this although the girls assured her otherwise.
Deep in thoughts about nothing, such was the condition of her mind with the pregnancy hormones, she failed to see Mundati exiting the lift that she was blindly entering and would have tumbled ungracefully to the floor, were it not for his quick reactions enabling him to catch her.
Laughing at herself, Lacerta quickly grinned at Mundati; he was almost like a little brother to her as he had become very close to Deus, particularly after the demise of Jake and although she wasn't old enough, Lacerta felt an almost motherly affection towards him.
Ruffling his hair, causing him to playfully growl at her, she motioned to the lift.
"How do you fancy accompanying this awkward and clumsy, pregnant woman to the rooftop garden? I haven't seen it yet and as it appears to be a clear night for early Autumn, I thought I would look at the stars from Earth for a change. What do you think?" she finished, smiling and fluttering her eyelashes at him as she did.
Mundati chuckled; the eyelash trick may work on Deus, but, pah, who was he kidding? It worked on him too!
Sweeping backwards into a mock bow, Mundati licked one finger, pretentiously smoothing down an eyebrow as he gestured to Lacerta, his arms extending to her as he stated in a pompous voice.
"Madame, would you allow your humble underling to escort you on your moonlight stroll?I shall be the perfect gentleman." he continued, before his face creased into a wide grin.
Both of them began howling with laughter; there hadn't been much to laugh about recently on Guardonia, yet this small matter cheered them both up, in the short term anyway.
Wiping her eyes, where they were streaming with 'happy tears', she smiled at Mundati and taking his arm, they entered the lift to go to the top floor, then climb the few steps up to the roof-top.
Once Mundati opened the shuttered door to the roof, by means of fingerprint recognition, he heldit open, then gestured to Lacerta to enter.
As she walked out onto the roof-top, she gave a small gasp of delight; Kirsty and Mundati had added this, almost as a afterthought, as a place where they the angels could come as couples, if they wanted some peace or even after a ferocious battle with the opposition.
