Speechless

Things had been awkward.

That was no small understatement after what had been said in their argument yesterday. Green was skirting around the issue, nervous that Red would explode at his stupid reasoning for hating Red so much.

Red, however, was just tired. Tired of trying not to step on Green’s toes and tired of trying to build back up their initial friendship after all that had happened.

Both had flown all day before landing yet again, having spent all day scrutinizing the forest as it passed by below them. Both had met Bill at one time or another and both knew what to look like. Now it simply came down to finding the adventurous man.

Green had just gotten done with dinner and was laying on his bed for the night, his eyes skimming over a construction blueprint for the Viridian Gym. Not much was going to be changed, but those that were needed to be planned. A new sub-training room would be added to the initial building so that he could more comfortably have his Pokémon around and about. The field behind the gym was already being fenced so that they could run around, and there were plans for a lake to be dug out and filled in.

“Good thing I save my money.” Green muttered, making a few small adjustments and writing a note on the side of the outlines.

Red walked in when Green was speaking and cast a glance at the blueprints he was working on before proceeding to the small desk within the two-bedroom room they had been given. Sitting down and only faintly wondering why Green didn’t sit there himself, Red proceeded to bring a stack of papers out of his backpack along with a pen.

As he begun to write, he could feel Green glancing at him every now and then but ignored it thoroughly as pen met paper.

A lot has happened since I have left Pallet Town with Green. I hope my Pokémon aren’t giving you any trouble and I’ll see you soon and explain everything, Mom.

Love, Red

Professor Oak, I still don’t understand why you wanted the both of us along for this errand. I could have easily taken care of it myself had you asked only me. You should know about how many unresolved issues we have – well, had. There are still a few there though.

Red

Misty, I haven’t spoken to you in quite a while and I’m sorry about that – though you should know that I had no contact with anyone while I was in Mt. Silver. I’m in Sinnoh with Green running an errand for Professor Oak but rest assured, all see you when we get back.

Red

Glancing over the three notes he had made, he reread them before sealing them in three envelopes. Sure, it was easier to video phone someone but it had been a long time since Red had actually written a letter.

Sighing, Red securely closed all three before returning the blank sheets of paper to his backpack and sticking his pen in his back pocket as he got up from the desk and exited the room without a word to his brunet roommate.

Green stared after his childhood friend, not sure how to take his silence seeing as it was normal. Something felt off about it though, as if he was just….drained too much to actually speak.

It was an hour before Red came back, letters no longer in hand and a few scratches from the carrier Pidgeotto he had gotten to fly the letters all the way to Kanto. The bird wasn’t too particularly happy about the cross-region flying he’d have to do. But, since he was stronger than his Pidgey companions, he was the chosen bird for the job.

Green was still awake, though now he was simply staring at the ceiling in boredom, not tired enough to sleep.

He saw Red come in and frowned as the black-haired Champion started to bandage his arms up after applying a bit of disinfectant. He wanted to ask what had happened but the no-talking aura the red-eyed male gave off instantly sealed his lips.

So, Green just continued to watch while Red ignored his lingering eyes and climbed into the other single bed, turning around so that his back was to the brunet and his faced the wall.

Red was aware he was being unsociable, and he didn’t care. He was offended by what Green had accused him of, even though he knew of most of them. Still, to hear the words come from his long-time friend….it had hurt. And he was allowed to sulk for a few days as far as he was concerned.
