Are You Ready Yet?

Red knocked on the door, leaning back against the porch rail as he waited for someone to answer. It was about eight in the morning, an acceptable time to be here seeing as the boat would leave for Sinnoh at ten.

After a few seconds a young girl opened the door, her stuffed Meowth doll trailing along the ground as she held one of its front paws in her hand. Red smiled at Green’s little sister, chuckling at the dazed, sleepy look on the girl’s face.

She looked up at Red, her eyes sparking with recognition before she grinned. “Red! Green said you were back!”

Red smiled, hugging the girl back when she suddenly wrapped her slim arms around his waist, her face rubbing against his stomach.

“Nice to see you too, Daisy. How long until your tenth birthday?” The seventeen year old question curiously. Whatever it was about Daisy, she suddenly made Red more talkative and childish – something that was quite odd nowadays.

“Four months! I can’t wait until April! I finally turned ten last week!” She said happily. Red blinked in surprise, frowning down at the kid.

“I missed your birthday? Damn, I should get you a gift.” He rubbed the back of his head, frowning. Daisy stared up at him with an excited air drifting from her.

“You’d really give me a gift?”

Red smiled down at the girl, his eyes closing. “Of course. Now then….Pika, what should we give her?”

Red glanced over his shoulder at his backpack. His Pikachu nosed its way out of the bag, looking up at his trainer for a few moments before disappearing back inside the bag. After a few seconds his head popped out once again, an item clamped in his mouth.

Red curiously looked at his shoulder as Pika jumped onto it, a tinkle being heard. Red’s eyes widened and he smiled, grabbing the Soothe Bell from his partner. He crouched down so that he was eye-level with Daisy, a smiling tugging at his lips once again as he held out the item to her.

“This is a Soothe Bell. When you get your first Pokémon, you can give this to them and it’ll make them friendlier towards you.” Daisy’s eyes widened and a grin grew on her features before she suddenly leaped towards Red, wrapping her arms around his neck.

“Thanks Red! I love it!” She gently plucked the bell which was attached to a red ribbon away from him, studying it with wide eyes. Red laughed, rubbing the top of the girls head as he made his way further into the house.

“I came to see Green, alright? I’ll wake him up.”

“Alright!” Daisy said cheerfully, heading into the kitchen as she hugged her Meowth doll and the Soothe Bell to her chest, her long, messy light brown hair swinging as she walked.

Red chuckled, heading up the stairs to the second floor. Daisy was used to Red being over, seeing as Red and Green had known each other since they were in diapers. Red was constantly around the house, always challenging Green to some type of contest which signaled the start of their long-felt rivalry.

Red walked along the familiar hallway, absently glancing at family pictures that were hung along with walls. There were a few of Green and him from when they were smaller, before they turned ten and went off on their journey. There were also a few of Green in front of the Viridian Gym, his Charizard beside him as they both happily looked at the camera.

Red chuckled, heading to the door at the end of the hall where light snores were being emitted. The black-haired boy opened the door, an amused smirk tugging at his lips at the sight of Green splayed across his bed, one arm hanging over the edge while the other was spread across the other side of the queen-size bed.
