"And for the third step you must eliminate desire to eliminate suffering." The words rung through my mind as I packed up my things.
"Chelsea...are you okay? You a look a little-"
"I'm fine," I snapped before Niall had the chance to call me something I didn't want to hear. He nodded slightly before looking away.
We walked down the aisle of the big lecture hall. We got to the bottom when I noticed Harry standing by the door. I darted my eyes away, I didn't want him to think that I liked him or something. Because I don't. I just have to keep telling myself that.
My eyes fluttered back to his curls a few seconds later, watching as he casually draped his arm around the girl standing next to him. Whitney. The blonde bimbo who doesn't seem to leave him alone. I gulped, this shouldn't effect me. I watched the thin line of his lips pull up into a flirty smile, Whitney's doing the same. Her skirt a little too tight, her shirt a little too low. I had to admit she was pretty, but in a stripper sort of way. Harry and Whitney were talking to another blonde girl before she turned and left the classroom. Niall seemed to not notice as I was forced to follow him towards the door.
I held my extra books tight to my chest and stared at the ground while we walked.
"Pledge Horan, you're coming tonight right?" his voice didn't seem to leave my mind. But then I looked up realizing he was actually talking. His arm was still propped up on Whitney's shoulder, her face telling it all. She smiled at me with a devious expression, like she had won Harry or something. I mentally growled, picturing me jumping on top of her and ripping all that colorful hair off her pretty little head.
...for the third step you must eliminate desire to eliminate suffering... Just remember that Chelsea.
"Yeah I'll be there," Niall said quietly. I wanted to ask what that was about, but more than anything I wanted to get out of this awkward situation. Harry looked at me with innocent eyes, Whitney's body inching closer and closer to his. I took a deep breath, she just didn't know when to stop did she.
"We're gonna go get a bite to eat," Whitney motioned to herself and Harry, "If you guys wanna join us."
The nerve of this bitch. Of course she knew I didn't want to go. Not with her and definitely not with Harry.
"No it's okay. We're good, but thanks for asking," Niall said before giving her a nice smile. I need to give this boy a lesson on how to be firmer, straight forward like me.
And there he was, with his arm around another girl. He might as well have plastered on his forehead "I DIDN'T MEAN TO KISS YOU, IT MEANT NOTHING. IM STILL THE SAME JERK I WAS SINCE THE MOMENT I MET YOU CHELSEA". But of course it didn't. Of course he still looked as perfect as ever, even when he was the one person I didn't want to be with right now.
Jealousy wouldn't be the word to describe it. More along the lines of annoyance. Pure fucking annoyance.
I finally was able to breathe normally again when Niall and I walked past Harry and his slut. I didn't say a word, and avoided eye contact as much as possible. Especially with Harry. Whitney could do whatever the hell she wants, as long as she stays out of my way.
"Are you sure you're okay Chels?" I don't know why I was shocked when Niall called me that. I guess we were becoming friends, good friends. Really he was one of my only friends.
"Oh um yeah I'm fine sorry. Just kinda tired. Wanna do homework?" it was kind of a regular thing of ours now. To do homework with each other after class. He was a million times smarter than me which helped a bunch.
"Yeah sure. Do you mind if we do it back at the house? There's something going on tonight that I need to be there for. I just wanna make sure I don't miss it."
"Yeah," I wanted to say that I don't mind going anywhere as long as Harry's not there. And they'd just told us that they're going to go eat, so hopefully I won't have to run into him again.
"Oh and Riley wanted to apologize for leaving so quickly last night," I bit my lip, "I kinda uh had to get home and she was my ride so...don't be mad at her."
"Why would I be mad at her?" his eyes seemed to lift at the mention of Riley's name.
"I don't know. She really likes you, you know." The blush that splotched against his pale skin, was bright as day. "What is that thing going on at your frat tonight?" I asked curiously, changing the subject.
"Oh it's nothing. Just some dumb prank I have to be a part of." And that was the last time we brought it up.
...
"So tell me more about yourself Chelsea," Niall said munching on a handful of chips. This frat house seems to have an endless supply of potato chips.
"What do you mean?" I leaned back on the couch putting down my pencil. We were taking a little break from the homework we've been working on for hours.
"Like you're just so different. All the girls at Trenton only care about looks, being slutty, and getting boys. You just don't seem to care about any of that," if only he knew. If only he knew that I did care what people thought, I just didn't let anyone see that side of me. I've always put myself out there as a confident, independent girl. And I guess I've just started to believe it.
"I'm just not into all that shit..." I mumbled stealing the bag of chips from his hands. I slammed some in my mouth, chewing extra loudly. He laughed. I quietly stuffed the remains into my mouth, blushing. Like I said, not a girly-girl...
"EVERYBODY DOWNSTAIRS NOW. ITS HAPPENING!" before I could process what was going on. Harry barged through the front door screaming at the top of his lungs. Boys were howling and cheering, streaming in from all directions. Everyone making a circle around Harry who was dressed in all black. A black beanie even placed snuggly atop his hair.
"Crap. I'm so sorry Chelsea, I have to go. I didn't think it was gonna be um now. Um you can probably-"
"NIALL LETS GO!" Harry's voiced boomed through the whole house just as everyone stared at me and Niall. Niall got up walking towards them.
"Niall!" I harshly whispered, "You're my only ride home!" My cheeks were burning red, looking down in attempt to hide them. I stood up a little taller as I followed him into the group of guys. I glared at the blank expressions that were being thrown my way.
"Everyone knows what to do, so let's go boys!" Harry was chanting to his frat boys like he was a warrior.
"Niall-"
"Just come with me!" Niall said grabbing my arm a little too harshly and ripping me out the door behind all the other boys.
"What-"
My voice was cutoff by a large boy running past me, knocking my shoulder.
"Hey! Watch where you're going you prick!" I rolled my eyes.
"I'm really sorry I'm dragging you into this Chelsea. But I don't have time to take you home right now," Niall said picking up his pace running to his car. Once we got in I put my hand on the stick shift, denying him from moving.
"Niall what's going on why are you in such a rush?!" but he swatted my hand away. By now we were already pulled out onto the main road, barely going the speed limit. I hated the way he physically pushed me away. My breathing was becoming jagged. I was so confused.
"Calmate! Slow down Niall!"
"Sorry...sorry." Then I remembered Niall saying the house was doing a prank tonight. I bet this was a typical friday with the frat boys.
"Niall if you don't tell me what's going on I'm gonna get out of this car right now," my voice getting aggravatingly angrier.
"Tonight's the first football game," his eyes didn't leave the road once.
"And..."
"We're gonna go steal a mascot."
