POLLY
I lay in the bed. Far off I could hear my mama in the room on the phone with my dad.
"No, he's gonna be fine. I know. I know."She was starting to get irritated with him.
Long story short he moved me out here because he found out I was gay, he said "I don't like that shit."
He packed all my things and sent me on my way to L.A. by plane!
"You can put it in my account, I'll send you my account number."
I was still surprised he was going to send money for me.
I get up and go in the shower for a bath. I take off my clothes and just look in the mirror. "So fine."
When I was finished I hopped in the shower. I brush my teeth and comb my hair.
I'm the type of boy who likes perfect skin, so I apply a color corrector on and I go get dressed. I pulled open my closet doors and I just looked at my clothes. On the first day of school and I wanted to look nice. I also didn't want to wear anything that could get me shot or beat up so I just put a tribal button-up shirt on with some denim jeans and some brown Sperry's and I went to my mirror to check myself out.
I grabbed my bookbag and I went downstairs where my mom was sitting in the kitchen and I grabbed myself a protein bar.
"Good Morning to you too."
I laughed a little "Good morning ma"
She got up and grabbed my face "Honey, listen, don't let anyone at that school bully you or make you feel bad because of the way you are, you are going to be something and I know you going to make it honey, stay focused."
She kissed me and she grabbed the keys and she drove me to school.
We had to go on the inside since I was new and because she had to enroll me.
"Hello Mrs. Barns, my name is Stacey and I'm the guidance counselor here and we are going to take good care of him."
My mom was still one of those people who didn't trust white people "It's Ms. Barnes, I'm not married, I'm very sure you will take care of him, does his schedule have his advanced classes on it?"
"Of course they do, we will have one of our elite students show him around today and he will start on his tomorrow"
My mom nodded her head and she pulled me aside "Polly, don't go fucking with these crazy white folks now, you find you some smart black churn to hang with and stay focused now"
When she walked away I heard her mumbling "Bitch. Trying to talk to me like I ain't got no sense, hoe I got a college degree, I probably can be a damn counselor of guidance." She is a real one from the country.
I laughed.
I sat in the seat and waited for this "elite" student to come to show me around here. I was waiting for about 10 minutes and then he walked in. My goodness. He was so damn fine. He walked up to me, "You're Polly?" I nodded my head. He smiled and his teeth were straight and white and he said "Alright come on cakes"
I looked at him "Cakes?" He laughed "It's a term we use here."
We walked out the door and we walked around all my classes. It was even blocked today so I was lucky.
We went to lunch afterward. "Well here on this campus, they let us walk off to get something to eat, it kind of prepares us for college and we also get to have a better lunch, we get thirty minutes and we have to be back before the class starts so."
I was feeling this school. Good classes, nice scene, and sexy boys. Black boys.
We sat down and started eating and he kept looking at me "Are you wearing makeup?"
"It's color corrector, I just like for my skin to look clear"
I kind of thought he was tryna to hit on me, but I didn't want to jump to conclusions. He started asking me personal questions, what was your childhood like? Etc.
I took a deep breath and answered them.
We went through a long list of questions that made me feel more eased until he finally asked "Are you gay?" Without even thinking I shook my head, yes, but I tried to save it by shaking my head no afterward later.
He did nothing but laugh. There was no one around and he leaned in closer to me "Can you keep a secret?" I shook my head yeah. "I am too." He leaned back swiped his tongue across his teeth and laughed and just got up and left. I was in so much shock because he just didn't know how bad I wanted to give him this munchie.
The school was done and the halls were filled with all kinds of people. "Well, this is where the tour end, we still will see each other since most of our classes are together." I grabbed his muscular arms and he turned and smiled at me "Wassup?" I came closer "You never told me your name" He put his mouth by my ear and said "Roger"
He disappeared into the crowd with a whole bunch of people surrounding him. What a perfect movie scene. I turned to head towards the door and some boy bumped into me "My bad"
I looked up he was tatted all over. "Damn shawty, who you" I jerked my head back and I gunned it for the doors.
My mom text me and told me she was still at the office and she wouldn't be able to pick me up so I would have to walk. I didn't know the way but it wasn't too far. Good ole GPS came in handy.
I was almost home. There was this big crowd in white by my corner. When I got closer I could see they had guns and I tried to go the other way. Then the same boy who passed me bumped me again. "Shawty damn, two times in 1 day." I kept going. He followed me around the corner leaving his boys He came behind and touched my ass "Aye boy, you hear me talking to you." I turned around ready to fight. "What man"
He looked at me and said "So wassup, My name Dee, you new or sumn" I shook my head yeah.
He licked his lips "Top or bottom?" I tilted my head looking at him like why. "Mmm, you might be a verse, I can see it. I'll be watching your sexy ass. Fuck you till you love me bitch."
He started walking backward laughing.
When I made it home, I went to the room and sat on the end of my bed "Did that just happen?" I walked to my window and I looked through the blinds and there was Dee, still looking but he had his hands in a gun shape and pretended as he shot me. I backed my ass up and I laid on my bed "Damn, you might be in some thugga thug shit."
