(3 days later)

We woke up at the crack of dawn.
We had been staying in this same spot for the last 3 days out of fear that Dracs and Scarecrows were still hanging around, so we didn't move. But now that I was thinking, I didn't wanna stay in the same spot because chances are that the Scarecrows could come back. And then shit would hit the fan.

"So now where are you going?" She asked. I was putting my things together, getting ready to head out.

"Where I'm going? Kid, where ever I go, your coming with me. I'm not that heartless just to leave you out here like that." I said. Besides, I had somehow gotten attached to her. I could see the relief and happiness in her face after I said I wouldn't leave her behind. She stood up and we left as soon as we could.

"So, are you feeling ok?" I asked, attempting to make small talk with her. She only shrugged.

"I don't know how to feel anymore. He was the only one who I wanted near me when I was pissed or upset. He was... My Saint Jimmy and I was his Whatsername. I guess now you can say, Jimmy died today.." She said quietly. Damn, that hit me.

"I know how it feels to lose someone like that. My boyfriend was shot right infront of me. He was my hero too. When the fires hit, I remember a Drac grabbing me and trying to force those damn pills down my throat. He tackled the Drac to the ground, but it was smarter than him. It shot my boyfriend in cold blood. But at least he died a hero.." I said.

"Yeah. They did. Mine took a bullet for me." She said. "They were heroes."

I smiled. Yeah, if I just think about it that way, it made me feel a little better.

"So, Rebel Rage, what are your talents?" I pushed on.

"Um...well I can sing." She said.

"Really huh? Well, maybe some day you can sing for me?" I asked. She giggled.

"Totally. Just tell me when. But I can also play the guitar." She said proudly.

"Lucky, I can't even play the Triangle..." I said. She  smiled.

"Well maybe I can teach you that too." She said.

We he'd been walking for hours. We had been talking about random things, from her hair to every cactus that we saw. It was really nice to have someone to talk to, and to have them actually listen to me was a bonus. We had fun just waking and talking. But it wasn't until I noticed what road we were on.

Route Guano

Shit.

How could I forget? I'm so stupid! This whole area is crawling with Dracs! And we had no way of transportation. We were stranded in a death trap.

"Jinx, is everything ok?" Asked Rebel. I quickly shushed her to listen. In the distance, I could hear a car. And it wasn't that Trans AM full of friendly boys plus one flirtatious boy. It was the kind that Dracs drive. The kind that we didn't wanna see.

"Run." I said. We ran off the road and onto the sandy ground. But they saw us and went off road. I quickly pulled out my guns, and turned around. The car was racing full speed ahead at us and I stood there with both guns in my hand, ready to shoot.

"What are you doing! We gotta go!" Screamed Rebel.

"I'm waiting for a better shot!" I shouted back. The car was getting closer by the second.

"Are you crazy? You'll get hit if we don't move!" She yelled over the roaring engine of the car. I ignored her protest and got ready to shoot.

As soon as the car was close enough, I shot both guns and hit them right between the eyes. The car stopped just mere inches away from me.

"Woah, nice job, but we've got more company." She said. She pointed to a pile of Drac's coming straight for us. And they wernt here to complement us on our hair. I shoved my second gun into her hand.

"You know how to shoot right?" I asked, my eyes never moving from the Drac's. It was like a horde of zombies coming straight for us.

"Yeah." She said.

"Get ready then..." I waited until they were closer to us. "Now!"

We ran at the horde and began shooting. We fought our hearts out, shooting left and right. She was pretty good. She shot a few on her own, and it went well. I finally shot down the last Drac.

"See, that wasn't so bad. Right Rebel." I asked.

No response.

"Rebel?" I turned around. Her eyes were wide. She looked down and I followed her head.

There I saw a hole in her stomach. Blood was leaking out of it and staining her shirt. She began to cry silent tears. I ran over to her before she fell over and caught her. Tears fell out of her bloodshot eyes.

"No, no no no not today." I said.

"It's ok, I had a good run. Maybe I'll get to see my Heart Grenade again..." She said quietly.

"No, stop that." I ordered. She coughed, blood coming up with it.

"And hey, these past few days have been my best time e..ever. I had f...fun.." She said.

"Stop that! Stop talking in past tense!" I shouted, my tears falling freely down my face now.

"I'm so sorry, I let this happen. This is all my fault." I cried. She reached her hand up shakily and touched my shoulder. She felt so cold.

"I..it's not Y..your fault." She said.

"No, I gotta fix this, I can fix this. Come on!" I said. I attempted to pick her up, but she grabbed my hand weakly and stopped me. I looked down at her, with more hot tears pooling in my eyes.

She looked so pale.

"No..m..my time here is over. I g..gotta go home now. K..keep doing what y..your doing.." She coughed. "Bring d..down Better Living I....Industries. For m..me, and my Heart G..Grenade. Please..." She told me. I nodded.

"I will Rebel I will.." I cried.

"Good.." She said.

She gave me one last smile.

One last blink

One last breath.

I cried into her chest. She was so young. So strong. She didn't deserve this. No one did.

I said a prayer for her, and started to dig her grave.
__

I piled the last handful of dirt onto her grave. I said one more prayer. Not only for her, but for Dead Grenade too. Even though I didn't know him, he still meant alot to Rebel.

And that was good enough for me.

I stood up from her grave and screamed. I screamed at the top of my lungs. I didn't care about the potential threat of Dracs nearby. I didn't care about anything right now. I kicked the sand out of rage, and I almost kicked a dead Dracs body that was nearby. But then I remembered.

These things were one people, like me.

I ignored them, and went straight towards the car that the Dracs were driving. I opened the door and pushed the body out, and I did the same with the other. I slid in and shut the door. I hit my head against the steering wheel. But before I drove off, I got out, and ripped the Better Living logo off of the side of the car. I threw it into the road. I got back in, started the car, and drove off.

She never did sing me that song.

I literally cried while writing this.

And for those of you who caught the little " Rebel Rage " hint, this will have no affect on the actual Rebel, who is a character from To Find What You Believe, which is my Green Day fanfiction that I'm writing.

She will be just fine, so don't worry.

Anyway!

Where do you think Jinx will go now? Will she walk this lonely road again, or will she find some people to be with in this time of grief?

Find out, in the next chapter!

        See ya! ✌
