Rudy was walking down the road, thinking of his little sister, Claire.
She was a beautiful young girl, dying tragically of sickness at age eight. Rudy could remember holding her hand as she gave her last breath, tears flooding his eyes, never forgetting that last smile she gave before she died.
Claire... Why? Why did you have to go so soon?
Rudy was still in utter denial. Even after three years had passed, he couldn't believe that his sister died. Her soft skin... Her warm smile that could melt the whole North Pole... And the memories they had shared in her short life...
They all ended way too soon.
It just wasn't fair.
Claire... I miss you...
A tear fell from Rudy's eye.
Claire watched as her brother cried, wanting to comfort him so badly. He could never feel her hugs, her sweet, sweet hugs that she would give him every day if she could.
Dumb sickness...
Her ethereal tears were invisble crystals on the snowy ground. Claire watched as Comet came and patted Rudy's back. "It's okay, Rudy, she's in a better place now."
"I know..." He sobbed. "But I don't want to believe it."
Claire shook her head. "I don't either, Rudy."
Comet gave Rudy a huge hug. "Rudy, what if your sister was still alive? Yes, that sounds like sonething you'd like, but she'd be so terribly sick that she wouldn't even be able to move. Would you want that for her?"
Rudy sobbed into Comet's shoulder, shaking his head.
"I love you, Rudy. Your sister would want you to be happy."
Claire nodded, even though she knew that no one could see her.
"Yeah... I know..."
The hugged each other for a long time before they headed home.
Claire waved sadly. "Goodbye, Rudy..."
