Pete sat across from me looking sadly. I don't understand what would make him so hesitant to tell me. I understand we haven't been together very long.
"Patrick, I don't know how to put this, and you have to promise me you won't run out on me and tell people." He started and I nodded. "Gerard and I are, well, vampires."
"Are you serious?" I asked chuckling a little. He had to be messing with me. He looked me in the eyes and what I saw made me scream. His eyes darkened and the veins below his eyes became more prominent. His two canine teeth extended into fangs. (Example pictured above)
I backed into the seat as far as the cushions would allow. I looked at Pete and as fast as his face changed it went back to normal. "I know it's a lot to take in, but I promise, I will never hurt you." I leaned back into my normal sitting position and Pete smiled a bit.
"H-how long have you b-been like this?" I asked.
"Since 1829." He said.
"That's, um old." I said and he chuckled a bit. "Who's Thomas?"
"Thomas was my boyfriend. He was the one who turned me. I loved him a lot, but he died when the city put vervain in all its waters."
"What's vervain?"
"Vervain is an herb that is poisonous to vampires. It's in your necklace to prevent vampires from using compulsion on you." I opened my mouth tho ask a question, but Pete spoke again. "Compulsion is mind control. Gerard used compulsion to feed off of you without you knowing. He also used it when he tried to kiss you, but you had the necklace on.
"Will this bite turn me into a vampire?" I asked, suddenly scared of what would happen to me.
"No, it won't, I promise. It's a long process." He said and I nodded.
"Why did Gerard say I look like Thomas?" I asked and he gasped slightly.
