My eyes drifted from the teacher preaching to the glass wall preventing me from walking right out. The weather was very nice, sunny and clear skies, perfect for doing absolutely nothing. I always had no plans on nice days while everyone else was off, out and about. But we had to get through school first, anyway.
Though it was Friday, very sunny, and unbelievably perfect, I'd always been met with the disappointment of no one wanting to hang out, which left me to the contemplate the fact that I was annoying and unlikable- or so I told myself.
My friends were busy, as always: Morene Folsom (tall, soft brown hair, hazel eyes) had baseball practice and Sunday morning church this weekend, and Kaite Halem (butterscotch hair cut with a fringe, dark eyes, lip and septum piercings) was never in the mood to hang out with me (it seemed so) and she wasn't very social. They weren't my only friends, of course, so making a fuss does seem unreasonable at this point.
My other best friends (Lillian Currant, Rianne Snow, Jake Marshall, Kaden Lara) are probably busy too; but not with anything I can think of. As always, there is no trouble in asking.
As Ms. Yang continued to drone on about....what was it? I was lost in my thoughts, gazing out the large window letting in a radiant sunlight, keeping cool vibes going.
I smiled when suddenly, I was called on.
"Ryanne?" Ms. Yang smiled, reminding me this was Chinese and I was failing (only because of my lazy work ethic.) I looked at Morene, who was conveniently sat beside me in her desk, shaking her head. Of course she didn't know the answer either- this was our period to goof off.
"Uhm, what was the question?" I smiled sheepishly. Ms. Yang tilted her head to the side, frowning. "Can you tell me what this is?" She pointed to her SmartBoard, a power point presentation on the board showing a picture of a monkey.
"Ho?" I was sure that was how to say horse, and I was also sure to gain a few giggles. "Dui," She said, nodding her head once. That meant correct in Chinese, which she said often.
As soon as she went to turn back to the board, Ms. Yang's voice was met with the bell that ended this period (which was second period.) I grabbed my binder, notebook, and Chromebook case, leaving abruptly when my attention was turned to a voice calling my name.
"Ryanne!" I recognized the voice- it was Lillian Curran, one of my oldest best friends. She had light brown hair, with strands of blonde creeping in and out of the messy bun on her head, and very big, dark eyes. She was short, shorter than me, but quite popular. I sighed, rolling my eyes in a teasing fashion, "Yes?"
"I have..." She took a breath as though she'd been running all day, "GREAT plans for this weekend!" Lillian said, emphasizing 'great.'
I smiled, knowing Lillian would come through eventually. "What did you have in mind, Lil?" Lillian flashed a toothy grin my way at the nickname and at the excitement of her plans. "So, you know how it seems we haven't hung out all together, the whole squad in one room: lots of drinks and lots of flashing lights, but it's just us and we can be ourSELVES!" Lillian took a giant breath, practically screaming. I laughed, wanting to yell with her because, hell, excitement was contagious.
Suddenly a small frown appeared on my face. "Morene has baseball practice, and church. I'm also certain Kaite wouldn't want to go."
"Well, the thing is," She said, obviously trying to hide the face-splitting smile appearing on her face, "I've talked to them, and Rianne, Kaden, and Jake. They're in!" Now it was my turn to hide the face-splitting smile.
"Lillian!" I hugged her tightly. "How!? What's the catch!?" I laughed, but also knowing that there is more than likely something to worry about.
"Well," Lil started, "I had to invite a few others." She stared at the ground, waiting for a response. "What? Who?" I said quickly, "You're not telling me-"
"Yes," Lillian smiled jokingly, "I invited Mollie." That earned a sigh from me. "You know that-"
"C'mon, she's not that bad." Lillian grabbed my shoulder, beginning to walk and catching my attention to follow. "It's not her I don't like," I gritted my teeth, "It's that stupid boyfriend of hers- Luke...ugh!"
"You'll get over it," She smiled again, earning an eye roll. "Sure."
"Get to class," Lillian laughed, walking off abruptly. "Oh, yeah-"
The bell rung and normally, I'd be bummed that I have to endure shit once more, but I was hyped. This was gonna be great.
