I was heading towards my post at the Basilicom. Sadly, I had been given a pretty shit job, maintenance. But it was still better than no job at all. And it actually paid pretty well. I got to my small office and went through the list of things I needed to check that day. None of them were that special, except for the second last one. "Fix Black Heart's window". Why did I need to fix that? What even happened? I guess I'll ask when I can.

First thing to do was check on the electrical panel. I did that and rearranged a few wires that were plugged in to the wrong places. That took me until 9:30 to do.

Next was the identity scanners at the main entrance and the elevators. There were a few bugs with the system but they were fixed correctly. It was 12:32 when I finished.

Next was the servo room. They had lost power last night and I had to check it out. I got down there and replaced the fuse and a few broken wires that caused the black-out. 3:30.

Finally came the window repair. I got to Black Heart's office and knocked on the door.

-"Lady Black Heart! I received a report saying that I need to fix your window! May I enter?"

-"Yes." I heard her say.

I entered the room to find that her window had been smashed by something.

-"Black Heart, may I ask what happened?"

-"Uni. Care to explain?" She looked over at Uni.

-"I...I accidentally shot the window while I was out on patrol." She said, embarrassed.

-"It's no problem for me, I'll just get paid more." I said while setting up the ladder.

I climbed up and Black Heart handed me the new panel of glass. I slid it in carefully. I then put on the cover that would let the window merge with the frame. I went down the ladder and saluted Black Heart.

-"Let that sit for 2 hours and then take off the cover."

-"Alright, thanks, here."

She handed me my pay for the day and I looked back up at her in confusion.

-"Don't worry about the last thing you had to do. I had someone else take care of it."

I looked at her and Uni, and saluted again before speaking up.

-"Understood."

I turned around and started walking towards the door before Uni came up to me and pulled on my arm.

-"Hey, here, take this. you might need it later."

She gave me what looked like a spear gun. WTF? Why would I need this?! But I kept my mouth shut and nodded as I took it. I returned to my office and put the spear gun in my safe. I packed up my things and headed out to go to my Sierra 2015 since my bike was wrecked 3 years ago. I started up the engine and it roared to life. I drove along the countryside road to get to my bungalow. I lived with my little sister to keep her safe as my final promise to my parents before they died. I got home and my little sister, Sophie, ran up to me, jumped onto me and hugged me. I returned the hug and brought her inside.

-"I made you some supper! I hope you like it!" Sophie said happily.

-"Thanks."

I turned on the TV and started eating. It was really good! I looked over at Sophie and gave her the thumbs up. We basically watched TV for the rest of the night. I looked over and saw that she was fast asleep. I turned off the TV and picked her up. I brought her to her room and put her in her bed. I went to my room and got in bed. I looked at the ceiling thinking about the life that Sophie and I had and how to make it better. I thought about our broken family and how to make it better. I fell asleep with that thought in my head.

...

...

...

I awoke to the sound of someone talking in my sisters room. I got out of bed and went over to her room to see that she was flinching around and making inaudible sounds and noises. I went over to her side and her eyes suddenly snapped open. She jumped up to me and hugged me in a tight embrace.

-"Rick! I just had an awful dream where you died and I was all alone!"

She was hyperventilating at this point.

-"Don't worry. It was just a dream. I'm right here. If you ever need me, I'll be here for you. I'm not going anywhere. We'll be in it together."

*SOB SOB*

I kept hugging her as she was crying. She's been having more nightmares about our family ever since I got that job. Maybe it's because I'm not at home as much. I've been talking to my doctor and asking how I could help but he keeps saying that this is something she must work out on her own. I didn't like seeing her sad or in pain but all I could do right now, according to the doc, was stay by her side and help her through the journey. I looked back down when I realized the crying had stopped. She had calmed down. She spoke up.

-"Hey, Rick?"

-"Yes?"

-"Can you sleep with me for tonight?"

-"Of course! If it helps you sleep better, then sure!"

-"Thanks."

We both laid down on her bed and fell asleep, hand in hand.
