The Refuge (Noire x Writer)

From Pain To Realization (1 week later)

     ...

...

     I heard faint sounds of many voices screaming.

???-"----will endure suffering!"

???-"---have you done this?"

???-"---can't do anything right!"

Noire?-"Would you sacrifice me to complete your---"

Noire?-"---could you watch me die?"

Noire?-"Lastation will fall without---."

Noire?-"You need to realize the truth behind the shadows and-------."

Noire?-"Could you find me if you really------?"

-"AH!" 

     I awoke in my room with a terrible headache. I got dressed as usual and went out to the kitchen. Sophie was there making me some breakfast. She saw me and gave me a hug.

-"Morning Rick!"

-"Hey Sophie."

-"Were you okay last night? I heard you thrashing around and when I went to check on you, you were making noises in your sleep. Is everything alright? Yesterday you seemed a bit on edge too."

-"I'm fine. It's just that work has been a bit tiring these days. That's all."

-"Oh, well if that's the case, then I'll go down there and tell Noire myself!"

-"No, no. There's no need for that."

-"If you're sure."

-"Come on, I'll ask for a lighter work load, okay?"

-"Okay."

     I got ready and headed out the door. It was a long drive down the country road to get to the Basilicom as usual. I parked at the back of the building and went inside. I still had work to do. I went over the list of things and, of course, Uni wanted to see me at the end of the day. I went on with my duties and finished up.

8:45

     I arrived at Noire's old room and knocked on the door.

-"Who is it?"

-"Uni, it's me, you wanted to see me?"

-"Alright, hang on."

     She opened the door and brought me inside.

-"So what do you want?" I asked.

-"I want to talk to you about my sister."

     Oh shit. If she finds out what happened, I'm dead. I put on the most blank face I could.

-"What about her?"

-"Look at this."

     She handed me a newspaper and the headline was:"Lady Black Heart missing?". I read through part of the article. It read:"Rumor has it that Lady Black Heart has done a mysterious vanishing act. Lady Black Heart has not been seen or heard for a week now and the streets are becoming more and more worried about her well-being, myself included. An interview with Uni, the younger sister of Lady Black Heart has more about the subject. Turn to page 24."

     Uni gave me a look of worry. Clearly she was worried for her sister. I reached over and put my hand on her shoulder and gave her a reassuring smile.

-"Uni, I promise you that I will do my best to find her. And return her to you."

-"Thank you Rick."

     I nodded.

I went out to my Sierra and got in and started the "search". I eventually found something of interest. I was driving through the dirt road of the forest when I saw a glowing ball of light on the side of the road. I pulled over and walked over to it. What was that? I picked it up and held it in my hand for a second. But then it started glowing brighter, I couldn't let go! It morphed into my body and all I could see was a pillar of light surround me. My mind went blank. I suddenly felt myself fall to the ground. I opened my eyes slowly as my eyes adjusted to the light. I got up and noticed that I was taller. I looked down at myself to see my body in battle armor, cool armor too. What just happened!? I decided to call off the search for today and went back to my truck.

-"I need to get home."

     As soon as I touched the truck though, we both went into some sort of rift. The world formed back around us. Me and the truck were in the driveway of my house! The truck was parked perfectly too. Was this teleportation? I was more confused than anything. What just went into me? And why do I look like this? Whatever, my job was done for today. I drove back to Anonydeath's place, changed back to my original form and went inside.

-"Anony! You here?"

     I heard the console on downstairs and went down.

-"Hey bro. I'm back, you wanna play some Duty Calls?"

     He walked up behind me. Wait, how did I know that? I turned to see him.

-"Sure, I got nothing else to do."

     We played some Duty Calls until it was the time when my usual shift ended and headed out.

...

I got home and saw Sophie already asleep on the couch with the TV on. Guess I was out for longer than I thought. I turned off the TV and "princess carried" her back to her room. When I picked her up, I saw a faint smile spread across her face. Was she still awake? I'll just pretend like I didn't notice. I put her in bed and went back to my room. I got in my bed and hoped to not have another one of those horrible nightmares. But maybe there's something more to them? I'll pay attention to what the dream tells me tonight and take note of it.
