Breaking Down

"Dearrr Zac.. Ugh noo."

Balling up the 100th piece of paper I tossed it towards my trash can, missing again. Throwing my pencil in frustration, I dropped backwards on my bed letting out a huge grunt.

"This. Is so. STUPID!"

It had been 2 days, 13 hours, 45 minutes and 5 seconds since Zac hung up on me. My mom suggested I call him, he didn't answer. Of course. I texted him, no reply. I went to his house, he's never there. I even tried writing him a letter but by my outburst it was obvious that was failing too. There was then a knock at my sliding door that flashed me out of my thoughts. At this point my head was buried into a pillow stained with the mascara that didn't make the water proof cut.

"Whaaaaaaaaat!"

My scream was muffled by my pillow but I had no intention of moving.

"It's Levi and Brandon."

"Can we come in?"

Rolling over, I slowly slid off of the bed and unlocked the door. Plopping back into my original position, I listened as the two guys entered my room.

" Did you come to kill me?"

I guess the seriousness in my tone made the situation funny because Levi broke out in a laugh.

"Hahaha no. Dramatic much? We just wanted to check on you."

Rolling over so they could both see my tear stained face I looked them straight in the eyes.

"I've never been more wonderful."

Obviously my monotone response wasn't enough to convince them because Brandon invited himself on my bed and Levi on the chair right next to it. If I was someone else I'd think an intervention was being held by the way they stared at me with concern. Brandon was the first to speak up, breaking our three way staring match.

" Look. I know we've never been too close but come on, I hate seeing you down like this. You're wasting those pretty white teeth by frowning all the time."

The corniness of the line made me giggle and break into a small grin before sitting up in bed. The atmosphere grew lighter as we began talking about, well surprisingly, everything but Zac. I think that's what I needed, a distraction. I learned a lot about Brandon and Levi actually. Brandon makes the most 'attractive' faces at times (all sarcasm intended). Levi is a complete sweetheart, which I knew already but it was just nice to be around. Finally they convinced me to get dressed while they waited outside and we went to Levi's house and played a much regretted game of twister. Note to self: being ticklish will get you no where in twister. After setting myself into a full blown back bend with Levi stretched under me, the door bell rung.

"I got it!"

Brandon ran towards the door leaving us stranded in weird and painful positions. I could see a blurry figure in the door way but it was hard to make out from being upside and from all the blood rushing to my head.

"BRANDON!!"

I screamed his name, hoping he'd get the hint that I lacked the arm strength to stay in that position forever.

"Mira?"

Recognizing the voice I dropped on top of Levi, earning a grunt from him. Rubbing my eyes I regained normal vision and double checked the person standing a couple of feet away from me.

"Zac...."

The room grew silent and the only sound was slow breathing and loud heartbeats from all of us. Standing up to face him, I took a step closer, promising myself to stay strong.

"We need to talk..."

The words made me break my promise as I took a seat on the couch, feeling as if I could faint at any moment. Taking a deep breath I closed my eyes and twisted the promise ring around on my finger.

"About..."

"We should.. I think it's obvious that... well I can't really forgive you..."

The jumbled mess that escaped his lips made me suddenly doubt my life on earth. I could feel as if someone dropped bricks on my heart and vacuumed all of the air from my lungs. Tears began to flow freely and I opened my mouth but I couldn't remember how to form words so I shut it almost immediately.

-LEVI'S POV-

I watched Mira's face change, I could almost see her heart crumbling. I sat frozen on the twister mat, afraid to make any move at all. I'd seen her cry a lot, she tended to do that regularly. But now she wasn't just crying. She wasn't just shaking. She wasn't just turning red. She was breaking. Everyone was in a sense. As Brandon put it, we were all breaking up but Mira... she was breaking down.
