"Miss Wickers, where were you yesterday for your detention?! You may be a star student, but that doesn't mean you can just skip your detentions! You and Mr. Green will be copying notes off the board for the week! Also, I was going to ask you if you could tutor Jared, but in these circumstances you have no choice." My mouth made a perfect O when I remembered. "Oh, that detention. Sorry about that." I said, giving the teacher a weak smile.
"Out now! Both of you!" She screamed. I flinched at how loud she was. My feet started towards the door and I sat down outside. Jared followed behind me and sat beside me.
I looked at him and he nervously smiled back at me. "She's never gone off like that before." I confessed. "I think we're in trouble."
"No shit Sherlock." I glared at him for his comment and he smiled.
"Did you ask for a tutor?" I asked.
"No, I took a test when I came and I must have flunked it. I'm not very good at English."
"It's okay. Come to my house after school and we'll get started."
"Thanks." We smiled at each other and waited for the teacher to deal with us.

"Get your knee up!" My dad screamed at me. Matilda was up by one point and everyone was watching. Carelessly, I threw kicks one after the other, hoping I would score. The buzzer sounded and I looked at the score board. Matilda was on 7 points and I had 8.
We bowed and shook hands. "Almost. That was a close one." Matilda quietly spoke in my ear. I was out of breath, but I gave her a smile and went to talk to my coach. Dad.
As soon as I made it to him he gave me a lecture on what to do next time, so I tuned out. "You got that, Lulu?" I nodded and went to get changed. I was done for the day.
"Lulu!" I heard Jared yell behind me.
"Quickly. I need to get changed out of this sweaty sparring gear."
"Do you want me to come to your house now?"
"Why would you be going to my house?"
"Tutoring."
A look of remembrance crossed my face. "Oh, yeah. Just follow Dad's car and you'll know where it is."
He winked at me and walked off. What have I got myself into? I'd rather just get in my pajamas and watch a movie.

"The studies this way." I said leading the way. We sat down and started on our latest English assignment. As the hour went by, I was nearly falling asleep because it was so boring.
"Is this right? Lulu! Wake up!" Jared hit me with his work book and I opened my eyes.
"What?" I said sleepily.
"Is this right?" He asked trying to sound calmer.
"Oh, yeah. Can we stop now? I'm really bored." Suddenly I had the greatest idea. "Why don't we watch a movie? It's Friday so we can sleep in."
"Sure."
"I pick though."
Jared sighed and followed me to the living room. I went through the movies, having difficulty deciding.
"Can you pick a short one? I just want this to be over with."
"Why? Don't you want to watch a movie?"
"I'm not a big fan of romantic comedies."
A huge grin appeared on my lips. "Who said I was into romcoms?" He tried to come up with an answer, but struggled.
"What do you think? We could have a Star Wars, Doctor Who or X files marathon. Take you pick or I'll choose." His face scrunched up like he was thinking really hard. "What's the X files?" My face dropped and I pulled out the first season. "You haven't lived."
I inserted the disc into the player and sat on the couch; a blanket draped over me and the remote in hand. The theme song came on and I squealed in excitement. Jared soon after sat down and grabbed a blanket of his own. The first scene came on and he jumped in shock.
"Wuss." I said in between laughs and he gave me a death glare.
"What are you guys doing?" My mother asked from behind me.
"Watching 'The X Files'." I said not bothering to turn around.
"Okay. Your father and I are going to go to bed. Turn all the lights off when you're done."
"Sure thing mum." I said before I heard a door shut behind me.
The first three episodes went by and we were on the second disc. Jared inched closer to me until we were right beside each other. We looked at each other and Jared leaned in. Yes, he was leaning in. I didn't know what to do so I looked at my phone to check the time.
"Oh, would you look at that. It's quarter to eleven."
"Wait, quarter to eleven? I've nearly missed my curfew." Jared said while jumping off the couch. He headed towards the front door.
"Goodnight, Jared." I said, feeling guilty for what happened before.
"Night."
I was so confused. What was he doing? Why did he lean in? Why didn't I lean in? My head was a mess, but I was too tired to deal with it so I went to bed.
