The engine revved and Jared reversed out of the car park onto the street. My low bun I had put in was now tumbling down my shoulders in a long flow of chocolate brown locks. The wind hit my face at full speed, but I didn't care.
"Where to?" Jared asked, his eyes still fixed on the road. What was I going to show him? The old, creepy houses in the centre of town or the run down pizza shop across from my dance studio? Where we lived was a pretty small and crappy town.
"Um, why don't you just drive and you can park when you find something cool." I say nervously, not knowing where to start.
"Okay." He says calmly and shifts his eyes back to the road. I looked back to the front and saw my dance studio to the side.
"That's where I dance." I said in a proud tone.
"You're a dancer? So you're one of those girls?"
"One of what girls?"
"The ones that stress about their hair and wear tons of make-up?"
"Do I look like I care about what I look like?" His eyes looked me up and down.
"Not really." He looked kind of embarrassed and avoided looking at me for the next few minutes of driving. I looked down at my hands.
All of a sudden he jerked the car sideways into a park. He got out of the car and started walking towards an all familiar hall. I got out of the car and grabbed his arm to stop him from entering.
"What?"
"You can't go in there."
"Why not?"
While I was struggling for an answer, he pulled his arm away and went in. This is just what I hoped wouldn't happen.
I followed him into the hall and saw the seniors training for nationals. They all turned around to look and I covered my face.
"I've been waiting to start training for ages. I didn't even know you had a club here." I heard Jared say beside me.
"Lulu, what are you doing here?" I looked up to find Matilda staring at me with the rest of the seniors. Matilda is my best friend. I have trained with her since I was 5. She just graduated last year and I still have school for a couple of years.
"Who's this?" Matilda asked.
Before I could answer Jared cut in. "I'm Jared. I just moved here. I was a black belt back where I used to live. I didn't know you had a Teakwondo club here."
Silence filled the air and just got more awkward. Matilda decided to break the silence.
"Okay, you can go talk to the Head Instructor in his office over there." He grabbed my arm and pulled me over. This day just keep getting better, not.
He knocked on the door and I could here my Dad's voice give permission to come in. A confused look instantly flooded his face as he saw Jared and I enter.
"Honey, why aren't you at school? I thought we talked about this." A small, nervous laugh escaped my lips and I looked at Jared for help.
"Hi, I'm Jared. I just moved here. I was a black belt where I used to live."
"Okay, would you like to train here?"
"Yes."
The day just kept getting more awkward.
"How old are you?" My father asked.
"I've just turned 18." My dad looked at me and gave a disappointed but grateful look.
"Lulu, since you've already skipped school, you can show young Jared here how we train. He can train with the seniors from now on."

After Jared went and got his uniform and belt, I got dressed at the hall. When I came out of the change room, I looked down at Jared's belt and discovered 1 dan. His face fell when he saw my 3 dans on my belt.
"I didn't even know you did Taekwondo, let alone was a black belt 3rd dan. Was that your dad? The head instructor?"
"Yeah. We better get started."
