Jared breezed through the warm up and poomsae so easily. We were at the part now that I had been waiting for.

"Go grab your sparring gear. We'll have a small match and then you can go home."

"Are you kidding me, I could do this for hours. We only just got to the good part."

I smiled to myself and went to the bench with my sparring gear. I put my head guard, shin guards, arm guards, mouth guard and chest guard on.

"Let's go!" Jared said in an enthusiastic voice. He was obviously ready to get beaten up.

We stepped in to the ring and bowed to each other then I lifted my arms up to my face.

"Scared Wickers?" Jared asked with a smirk.

"You wish."

"Did you just quote Harry Potter?"

"So what if I did?" I said. Jared shook his head with a smile.

"It's alright," He said, "I'll go easy on you." I held a straight face, but in my mind I was smiling like a lunatic. He should not have said that.

We started. He threw a few kicks at me but I dodged them easily. We were about halfway through and I hadn't kicked yet. I just dodged his kicks and faked some. No-one had scored.

"Are you gonna kick or are we just going to stand-" I cut him off mid sentence when I did a swift round house to the back of his head lightly. It caught him off guard, so I push kicked him in the ribs and back kicked him to the stomach. He completely lost balance and fell flat on his back.

After he caught his breath back, he uttered, "whoa". I turned to see my dad standing in the doorway of his office. He gave me an approving nod and entered back into the office. When the door shut, I looked at Jared struggling to get up.

"3 kicks is all it takes to get you on your back." I said, holding back the giggles.

"Hey, I was going easy on you."

"Sure, sure." I giggled.

"Can you help me pack up, honey?" My dad called from the office on the other side of the hall. Everybody else had left.

"Sure." I jogged over to the door and helped my dad put away all of the paper work and stuff.

"Did you put him on his back?" My dad asked curiously. I sparred a lot of people that day, but he didn't need to say who he was talking about for me to answer.

"Yeah." I said smiling to myself.

"Do you reckon he's any good?"

"Well, he has potential, but he could use some work."

"Is he in your class at school?"

"Yeah."

"Tell him to come train with the seniors. If he wants to go to nationals, he'll have to win state. Bring him to me so he can sign some forms."

"Okay." I said carrying a box of dad's stuff out the door.

I got to the car and hopped in the passenger seat. Dad soon followed after and we drove home.

"Lulu!" I heard a voice behind me. I turned to see Jo running towards me. I met Jo in primary school. She moved from India when she was 9. She's got jet black hair, glasses and a very enthusiastic spirit.

I didn't notice till she was a metre away from me that she was going in for a hug. When the space between us closed in, I was tackled to the ground. There was a loud thud and everybody at school stared, but we just kept hysterically laughing.

My other friend Mia walked around the corner and saw us on the floor. She gave us a disappointed look. Every time Jo and I went in for a hug, we ended up rolling on the floor laughing. Mia has been my friend since I can remember. She has bright red hair, fair skin and ear phones permanently sewn into her school jumper.

Once Jo and I had finished our laughing fit, we got up off of the floor. At that moment Jared walked around the corner with a group of his new friends. He broke away from the group and came to stand next to me and the girls.

"Hey, do we have English first?" He asked.

"Yeah we do. Dad told me to tell you that you should train with the senior group now. We're all going to state championships so you can come along if you like."

"Yeah ok." He said casually. "Oh, and next time, I'm not going easy on you."

"Well you didn't the first time so, I shouldn't be worried about anything."

His fists balled up in anger and he said through his gritted teeth, "See you in class." and left.

"Who was that?" Jo asked in a confused way.

"That's Jared, the new guy. I have to sit with him in class. You guys are so lucky that you are in the same class."

"What was he talking about training?" Mia asked, dismissing me attempt to change the subject.

"He joined the Teakwondo club. I sparred with him last night."

"And?"

"And I put him on his ass in three kicks."

"That's my girl," Jo said proudly, "Out there, kicking boys butts." I smiled at her comment and the bell rang.

"I better go." I said to them. "Wish me luck."

They both gave me a sympathetic smile and walked off together.
