The light in my room turned on flashing light in through my eyelids. "Go away!" I yelled but it was muffled through the pillow. Two hands grasped my shoulders and shook me until I fell flat on the floor.
My eyes were still half asleep and I couldn't see anything. The blanket was draped across my head and I couldn't move.
I suspected whoever it was, was going to help me up. But they didn't. It was then that I started to panic. What if it was a murderer? My hand darted around for anything to use as a weapon.
Struggling, I got up and pointed my spare toothbrush at my attacker. Don't ask me why I keep a toothbrush on my bedside table. I kind of have a weird obsession with them. Don't judge me.
"Whoa! I have a feeling that you've got me confused with someone else."
"Sam?"
He gave me one of those cheeky grins that I couldn't resist. I didn't even realise I had started day dreaming until Sam gave me a weird look and I started hitting his arm with my fist.
"Owwww!" He squealed out. I had no sympathy for him.
"Bitch." I said, not letting him see any of my amusement.
"Jerk."
We both burst into laughter and I tripped over the lamp's cord. I landed face first in a pile of clothes. At least it was a soft landing. Sam, of course, just laughed harder. I got my foot behind his leg and tripped him up and he landed on my dresser and rolled off onto the floor next to me. This just caused me to laugh harder.
Dad came up right at that moment.
"What is that racket-" He cut himself off when he saw us both laughing on the floor.
"Nevermind. I see that there's been an accident. I'll be downstairs wasting time while you two find a way to get up." He left the room.
"Come on. We gotta go. Don't want to be late." Jared said, holding out his hand to help me up.
"Late for what?"
"The Taekwondo comp."
"Ohhhh."
When I managed to get up, I shoved Sam out the door.
"What are you doing?"
"Getting changed. I don't want you in here."
I closed the door in his face and headed over to my wardrobe. I pulled on a pair of tracksuit pants and a t shirt with the tardis on it. I'm a nerd. Don't blame me. I was raised on sci-fi and action. Pulling on my favourite jacket, I pulled my phone off the charger. 12%! Dang it! It wasn't plugged in at the wall. Wow. Dumb blonde moment.
There was a series of knocks on the door, so I yelled for Sam to wait. I pulled my hair up into a messy bun and put on my doc martins.
Sam opened the door with his hands covering his face.
"I don't know if you're changed yet, but I couldn't wait out there. Your mum was making that disgusting tuna bake. It grossed me out."
"Come on." I said dragging him along. I forgot to tell him that he could open his eyes, so he stood there like an idiot in front of my dad.
"Lulu, you can go with Sam. My car's too full."
"Okay. Bye mum." I said, putting my things into Sam's car.
"Bye sweetie. I'm having some girlfriends over, so I won't miss you too much."
I weakly slapped her on the arm and pulled her into a hug. I wish I had have savoured that hug.
I waved goodbye as I got into the car and we drove off.
"Put on my playlist!" I said a little too enthusiastically.
"Alright, alright." Jared said, putting my USB into the car.
Never tear us apart by INXS came on and we started singing at the top of our lungs. Next came on Mad hatter by Melanie Martinez. I can't explain how weirdly I danced during that song. The rest of the drive consisted of GDFR by Flo Rida, Dance off by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Hall of fame by The Script, Immortals by Fall out boy and Miss Jackson by Panic! at the disco.
When I lost my voice I started to read City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare. Sam pointed at the cover and said "Nerd." This earned him a hard slap on the shoulder. "I'm just joking. I've read it. The next ones better." Sam was a nerd too!
Later we stopped at a Mcdonalds and had burgers. Sam had mustard all over his face and I had never laughed harder when milkshake came out of his nose.
We got back in the car.
"I'm so nervous." I said, wanting to get it out to someone.
"What? Lulu the confident, positive fighter is nervous. This is a first."
"I guess, I'm just not as good as I used to be."
Sam looked at me with kindness in his sweet eyes.
"The Lulu I know wouldn't be worried. She'd rise to the occasion, and if she failed, she'd fail with pride. Just try your hardest and don't worry about. Always keep fighting."
I smiled at him to thank him and he smiled back. The next thing I knew, Sam's mouth was on mine and we were kissing. I had never been kissed before, so I didn't know what to do. I justs kind of went with Sam and then my phone went off.
"Oh, sorry." I said, reaching for my phone. It was Mia.
Listen to this
There was a link to a twenty one pilots song.
"We better go." Sam said, starting the car.
Great, lulu. You blew it.
