Chapter Forty-Four

     September 2012

     Present Day

“Why are you grinning?” Josh’s voice brought me back to Earth and I squirmed uncomfortably in my seat. “And why are you blushing?”

I ran my fingers through my hair and took a deep breath. I didn’t like being caught reminiscing about me and Josh’s best moments, especially by him. “I remembered something.”

“What?” He sat down next to me and rested his elbows on his thighs. “What did you remember that made you grin and blush so hard?”

I blushed even more and cleared my throat. “None of your business.”

He laughed and slid closer to me. “Come on, tell me!”

“Why do you want to know?”

“Because you don’t want me to.”

“Oh!” I cocked an eyebrow at him but couldn’t help laughing. “Good answer, Josh. Now you’ll never know.”

“No.” He groaned and stuck his face too close to mine. “Please, tell me, Gaby. Please!”

He was being too cute and my resistance was quickly crumbling. “Fine!” I rolled my eyes at him and pushed him away. “I was remembering when you beat up that guy Louis once. I went through the whole night in my head.”

“The guy who kissed you?” Josh’s eyes darkened but he didn’t look really pissed. Not like he’d been that night. “Yeah, I remember that. But why did that make you grin?”

“Well, I think the grinning started when I remembered how that night ended.” I looked down at my hands in my lap and smiled shyly, aware that my face was tomato-red. “It’s grin – and blush – worthy, if I may so myself.”

He was silent for a bit, and I couldn’t see his face or his eyes because I was too shy to look at him. After three years of being with him, I still found myself blushing and too shy to look him in the face sometimes.

“Josh!” I yelped when he lunged at me and pressed his lips to my neck. I pushed him away and succeeded. It felt like my cheeks were on fire and my heart was racing. I looked at him and he was grinning triumphantly with mischief in his eyes. “You’re unbelievable.”

“I had to, sorry.” He laughed. “You should’ve seen your face, Gaby. A blushing bride.”

“A lot of guys would think that it’s cute.” I said indignantly. “Only you would make fun of me for being like that.”

“Don’t get me wrong, babe, but I love that I still have that effect on you.” He replied. “Makes my heart swell with happiness.”

     “Jerk.”

“It’s the truth.” He held my hand and pressed his lips to my curled fingers. “I’m not kidding. I love it when you blush. And yes, I might get other thoughts in my head that I can’t tell you about because you’re a girl and I’m a gentleman, but I love it nonetheless.”

“A gentleman?” I scoffed. “Yeah, right.”

“I am!” He said defensively. “Darling, you don’t want to see me when I’m not being a gentleman. You might slap me and never speak to me again.”

     “I think I’ve seen glimpses.”

His smile turned mischievous and it sent shivers down my spine. Damn, he was one hot bastard. “And as I recall, you liked what you saw.”
