Chapter Seventy-Three
October 2012
Present Day
“What about pink?”
Avy turned her head and glared at me. “No, Gaby. No pink. My maid-of-honor dress will not be pink.”
I sighed and scowled at her. “Well, you already said no to black, green, and purple. And we need a color that doesn’t clash with Amy’s hair.”
“There are a dozen other colors to choose from!” She exclaimed and then looked around her self-consciously. We were in one of the most expensive dress boutiques in Paris, and we were wearing jeans and hoodies. They’d let us in hesitantly, and being loud was going to get us kicked out, no matter what our last name was. “Gaby, choose another color, please.”
“Royal-blue?”
“No.” She shook her head. “Mom’s wearing royal-blue. And Seth tells me Audrey’s dress is golden, so we can’t wear that either.”
“What about Natasha?”
“Black.”
I rolled my eyes and chuckled. “Of course.” I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair. “I’m this close to giving up the whole bridesmaids thing. It’s too tiring.”
“Well, the hen party planning is over.” She replied. “And I won’t let you ruin things for me. I didn’t do all of this for nothing.”
“Well, then, how about you suggest a color?” I asked. I had no idea why I couldn’t think straight. I still hadn’t found the perfect wedding dress, and Josh still needed to get a tux. We still hadn’t chosen a caterer and I was on the verge of freaking out. “Please, Avy, make some decisions for me.”
“I thought the bride was supposed to choose what the bridesmaids wore.” She frowned. “I sure did. Which reminds me, we can’t wear baby-blue, we used that in my wedding.”
“Stop pointing out colors we can’t use!” I hissed. “And when you’re done choosing, let Jake know so that he could coordinate with you. I’ve given up on you and Drake being a couple by the time the wedding actually happens, so Jake’s tie is going to be the same color as your dress, since he’s the bestman and all.”
“He might be bringing his girlfriend.” She shrugged. “They should color-coordinate, not me and him.”
“There is no way in hell my sister’s going to be stagging at my wedding!” I snapped. “Amy, yes. Everyone expects her to stag, so it’s fine. But not you, Avy. I want you to actually have fun at my wedding.”
She rolled her eyes at me and put her hands on my shoulders. “I’ll be fine. Just focus on your duties as a bride and don’t worry about me stagging. I’ll make do. Now, how about grey? Or silver? Or maybe somewhere in between?”
I beamed at her and nodded. “Brilliant! You’ll both look amazing!” I clapped my hands together. “We need to design something for you, then!”
“Halter.” She stepped away and gazed at the white dresses around us. “It’ll look perfect, and I like halter ones. Amy’s not going to have a problem with it.”
“Mid-thigh or just above the knee?”
“She’s not wearing mid-thigh.” Avy smirked. “Come on, Gabs, we’re talking about Amy here. She’ll throw a fit because it’s not floor-length.”
