Chapter 6:

Runaway

- At school -

"Hey A.C.! Damn, look at those bags under your eyes. Have you even got any sleep?" "Hello, Sam. And no, I didn't get any sleep right now. When I came home after we hang out with Lexa, my dad got mad and he is not even allow me to hangout with you guys after school" "Dang, your dad is hard." "I know! I'm not a kid who he can tell what to do! I'm 16 for God's sake, I'm not 5." "Your dad is being too Pushy and strict." "And he grounded me because he thinks that my grade is getting lower? He always- ALWAYS trying to find a way to find my bad side out. I swear that- dang it." We walk outside the building and sit on the grass, Sam look at me and say, '"This is not just about him, huh? There is something else." "What else? It's about him! He always told me what to do and what not to do! I don't even know what I actually want to do something or not. After-" "After what?" Sam asked. I continue, "Remember when you said Lexa is different? She is. She is unique. Something, something about her makes me realize that the world that she is living is different than the world I live in. you wouldn't even understand. " "You are right, man. I don't understand." "Her life seems to be really, peaceful. She wouldn't even have to think about her grades, her life, college, but she is doing just find. She lived life like there is nothing to worry about. But, me, my life have always been a pressure. And I always think that grades are everything, and all my parent rules are made to make my life be better. But it's not. They make my life feel like some kind of system. Study, work, have kids, died. But, look at you! Look at her! You guys don't have to live like this. without force or rules" "Then, don't live like this Aid. If you don't like the life you live, then don't live in it." He said. I don't even expect Sam to be this wise full man. There is also something that makes me hate my dad so much, but, I'm not ready to tell him yet. "There is something else, but- I, fuck. Sam, I don't know-" "It's okay A.C., you can tell me. I'm your friend." I can't keep this one from myself. I feel that this needs to get out or I will be stuck with it as long as I keep it for myself. "I saw my dad cheating on mom last week. The second day after I met Lexa, I was coming home late, so I tried to get in the house from backyard. And at first, I was trying to get through the kitchen door, but then I heard a muffled sound and the sound of heavy breath. It was my dad, cheating with another women. They're just kissing not having sex, but still. I was so pissed, but I can't do anything. I can't tell my mom. She will be upset. I don't want her to be sad, cause I know she is not going to take it well." "I'm really sorry for you, Aid." "But you have to tell your mom the truth. Sooner or later, she'll find out. And she will regret it for not knowing the truth from the beginning."

"Hey Aiden Chris." I look at the person standing beside me, "Oh, hey" I smiled. "You seem so, down today. What happened?" She seat beside me on the grass. "No, nothing. Have you seem Sam?" I asked her, I haven't seen Sam since after school. "I don't know, you're his best friend, not me." She laughs. "How do you do it?" I asked her. She confused, "Do what?" "You see life as a gift. Like there is no pressure. How can you acted like everything is perfect when there are so many flaws in this world. But you don't see it. You don't see it like I do. How can you do that?" "Every breath counts. That's how I see it. The breath that you let go whenever you talk, whenever you laugh, whenever you cry. Each of them contains a fairy tale. A fairy tale that you made by yourself. So, it's your choice to whether make that story to be a good one, or a bad one. It depends on how you see it. Well, me, I want to make it interesting. So I won't let any people to control it. Cause this is my fairy tale." "But fairy tale isn't real." I said to her. She replied "It depends on what you see, what is real and not real. At first, you don't see it's real for you to jump off from a cliff and survived, even though you almost drowned to death. But, you made it now. Think about this. Do you think its real for a 15 years old orphan running away from her foster home with her 5 years old little sister? I don't believe it neither at first, but, we made that happened." She said. I look at her and smile, "Yeah, you did. Thank you" I said. "For what?" "I don't know, you just- made me feel better." I said. "Then, you are welcome" She smiles back. "Where is Kaitlin by the way?" "She's at my aunt house" I didn't know she has a relative, "You have an aunt?" "Well, she is not basically my aunt. I just grow up really close to her. And she is part of the church community, so I think Kaitlin will be safe with her." I look at my watch, it's 4:30 pm. "ugh, I need to go now" "You know your dad is kind of-" "Suck? Yeah, I know." "I meant to say 'annoying', but, that'll do."
