─── CHESHIRE'S ARRIVAL had caused quite the alarm around the school, but if that wasn't enough, the quick discovery of learning that the creatures spoke from Wonderland had sent the student body into an absolute frenzy. Suddenly, Alice found that her peers wanted to talk to her, but it wasn't so much her that they wanted to speak to. They were hoping to share in a conversation with the Wonderland creatures, just so they could say that they had witnessed the talking cat or rabbit.
However, it wasn't a very easy task as Cheshire and Mr Rabbit were quite selective about who they wished to speak with and they made it abundantly clear with how they either disappeared or shooed off anyone who dared to bother them.
For the most part outside of Alice, Cheshire seemed to spend the majority of his time in the company of the Hogwarts ghosts and the school's poltergeist, Peeves. And for Mr Rabbit, he was comfortable speaking around Alice's original friends, but he wouldn't it put passed himself to tell a student off if they bothered him enough. Some took in the delight of just getting a reaction out of him, while others heeded the warning and stayed away.
Alice found herself overwhelmed and exhausted by the sudden burst of attention she was getting, due to Cheshire and Mr Rabbit. Having to repeat the same thing over and over to keep people from bothering her friends, often left her irritated by the end of the day, not to mention, quite tired. She fell asleep early most nights after dinner, practically collapsing onto her bed and curling up into a tight ball.
That particular evening was no different as Alice was sound asleep before the clock chimed nine times in the Common Room. Despite Alice gaining an immense amount of popularity over the recent days, her dormmates didn't seem to fall in line with the others. Instead, they still took to avoiding Alice and remaining out of the dorm until it was absolutely necessary for them to be in there. Cheshire and Mr Rabbit weren't bothered by their attitudes though, it left the room to their liking as they could speak in private.
As Cheshire hummed a familiar tune to himself as Alice remained asleep, Mr Rabbit came to rest on his back at the bottom of the bed. He stared up at the ceiling before letting out a heavy sigh.
"I wonder if we'll ever get back to Wonderland," he pondered out loud, " it seems we keep finding our way here, but we can't make our way home."
It was hard on Mr Rabbit to think about never actually making it home. He was thankful to be the companion at Alice's side to keep her safe and help her along the new adventure, but at the same time, Alice wasn't the only one missing Wonderland. He didn't dare voice it when she was awake, knowing that she already felt plenty guilty about the situation.
Cheshire peered over at him as he rolled onto his back as well in midair. "Well, Alice found Wonderland once, perhaps she can find it again," he said, " or perhaps the others from Wonderland will find their way here."
The mere thought of the arrival of others caused Mr Rabbit to sit up almost instantly. "I don't think we want them to find their way here, Cheshire. I don't think they would survive very long in this world. There is far too much judgement and too many rules around here. We are surrounded by those with closed minds and enforce rules to keep it that way."
