"A favor?" His confusion rings clear.

"Yeah...do you know a guy named Kian Lawley..." I ask.

"Why..." His voice drops to a whisper and I hear him move.

"Please dude. Its important...I think his sister may be in danger." I say.

I hear a door shut on his end and walking.

"Kians not someone you wanna mess with and neither is his baby sister bro." Sammy voices his caution.

"Look my gang might have-"

"Gang!? Aww G. I thought you were gonna stay out of trouble." He sounds disappointed.

"Well I didn't. Sorry. Anyway, my gang leader wanted us to find out information on a kid named JC. He's got his own gang. Apparently they are going down to Emmetsville. That's where Kians gang is....right?"

"Yes..."

"Well when Johnson and I-"

"Johnsons with you!? Oh Jesus Jack."

"Stop interrupting. Alright? I'm depending on you here." I speak quickly for fear of Donté finding out what I'm up to.

"I'm listening sorry." Sammy apologizes.

"Johnson and I trailed JC and two of his guys they dropped a paper that had Kenzie name on it. I think they are gonna go after her..."

Sammy is silent and I fear he hung up, I'm relieved when he finally says.

"Kians my gang leader...."

"So you do know Kian? Can you warn him or something?" I ask.

"Its forbidden for gangs to intermingle. I could get shot for even talking to you G. Youre gonna have to do something really risky..." Sammy says.

"Like?" I ask afraid. The last time Sammy told me to do something risky, it was in 4th grade and he told me to do a flip off the swings to impress some girl. It didn't end well.

"Youre gonna have to leave your gang and come down here and join Kians gang with me. He will see your loyal and serious about protecting his sister."

"Woah... I said nothing about protecting her." I say starting to pace.

"If you didn't want to, you wouldn't have called." I can hear the smirk in his voice.

"Youre right and I hate that." I mutter.

"I'll tell Kian there's a new recruit coming. How soon can you get down here?" Sammy asks.

"I'll have to sneak away tomorrow during Dontés organization of a group and take the bus." I say.

"Sounds like a plan. Call me when you get on the bus." He says. "And Jack?"

"Yeah."

"Be careful..."

"Always am Sammy." I hang up and stand there contemplating. How am I going to get out without alerting everyone else?

I quickly go online on my phone and buy a bus ticket for tomorrow.

"Whatcha doing?" I hear behind me. I quickly lock my phone and turn to see Johnson.

"Thought you were mad at me." I say sliding my phone into my jacket pocket.

"No. Not entirely....that guy died Jack...life's short. Especially in this business...what if that had been me? I would have died mad at you. What if it had been you?" He looks at me. I inwardly sigh. He's getting all emotional like he does.

"Well it wasn't." I say.

"What if it had!? Our last conversation ended in me walking away." He looks close to tears.

"Johnson stop! Alright? Its done and over with." I cross my arms. Am I gonna have to take Johnson with me?

"How are you so calm?" He asks.

"Cause I knew what I was getting into when I signed up." I shrug. Its true, also I've seen someone die already. It was during a recon mission. An innocent bystander got shot by a guy we were chasing. I felt bad for the guys family cause the guy who shot him will never be caught. He's probably in Puerto Rico.

"Oh..." He motions to my pocket. "What were you doing?"

"Trying to...figure out where that Dylan kid might have gone." I lie.

"Boss said Dylan's headed south." Johnson says.

"Yeah...so maybe...one of us should head south...try to figure out JCs plan." I carefully say.

"Yeah that's what Dontés doing tomorrow. He's selecting one of us to go." He shrugs.

"Yeah..."I trail off. I need to leave before Donté sends someone, cause I can't afford to have Donté trailing my every move. If Kian finds out I'm from a rival gang he will shoot me before I get the chance to explain.

"Come on boss is calling a meeting." Johnson says heading back inside.

I follow him. Why would the boss be calling a meeting?
