Doing It Right

Chapter 16

After hours of what felt like torture of being in that basement we were finally allowed to leave. Kenzie didn't look at me or anything the entire time we were down there and it hurt. But it hurt worse cause i can't tell her how i truly feel, because of Kian. I didn't want to lose my job, but i didn't want to lose her. I had to make a decision and fast. 

"Gilinsky you're to escourt my sister home." he says. 

"Yes sir." I nod and quickly take my place next to Kenzie as we start walking back to the house. It's gonna be a pain to put the house back together if whoever attacked the house tore it up bad. 

Suddenly Kenzie races ahead and falls instep inbetween her brother and Chris, who i still despise. 

"Kenzie, get back here!" I yell. She ignores me and takes Chris' hand. I feel my anger instantly flare.

I instantly race to catch up with with them.

"Kenzie, i told you to get back here!" I say taking my spot next to her once again.

"I'm fine. Chris is just as capable of protecting me as you are." She says glancing at me. I glare at Chris who just shrugs. 

"It isn't his job." I say grabbing her hand and pulling her away from Chris. If she thinks i won't beat this kids ass into the ground she's sorely mistaken.

"Not cool bro." Chris says stopping.

"What are you gonna do about it, huh?" I ask as we get in each other's faces. 

"You think that just because you are new here, you get a free pass on banging Kian's sister." Chris says. He's pushing his luck here.

"I never said anything about banging her! I would never disrespect Kenzie, unlike you." I say. 

"I never disrespected her." Chris narrows his eyes. Oh lying is your game now?

"You tried to rape her the other day." My eyes also narrow. 

"I didn't do that! Kian is my best friend! I would never touch his little sister like that!" Chris' voice drops. More lies.

"You may be trying to save yourself, but eventually Kian will find out the truth." my fists clench. I'm dying to just punch him in the face.

"And when he does, he'll find out how you feel about his sister." his fists also clench. My jaw locks. This guy is also gonnna get me fired. Is that everyone's goal? to get me fired?

"What is going on here?" I hear Kian ask.

"Gilinsky and i were having a discussion." Chris says glancing at Kian. Yeah, about your lies.

"Well there's time for that later. Let's go." Kian commands. That's when i notice most of the gang has stopped and was watching shit go down, but they start walking as soon as Kian gives the command.

"Just stay away from Kenzie." I warn. 

"Careful Gilinsky, Kian might just find out your secret." Chris smirks and starts to walk after everyone else, but not before adding. "And don't worry, after I tell Kian how i feel about her, she'll be my girlfriend." I let out a growl as he walks away. I start to go after him but Kenzie grabs my arm. 

How can he say that kind of crap? How does Kian trust him? How can anyone trust that slimeball?

"Let him go." Kenzie softly says. I do as she says watching Chris jog to catch up with Kian even though i want nothing more than to shoot him.

"Kenzie." I say turning my head to look at her.

"Yeah?" she slowly lets go of my arm.

"No matter what happens promise me you were mine first." I say. She looks at me confused. If Chris tries to date her, and he tries to claim he had her first...she will have promised  that she was mine first.

"Gilinsky, what ar-"

"Just promise!" I interrupt her.

"I promise." she says. I give her a small smile and then motion for her to start walking again. Silence fall between us as we walk back to the house, but I have a million questions running through mine. From my sister telling me she's involved with JC's gang to Chris saying he's gonna reveal my feelings about Kenzie.

"Where have you two been?" I hear. I notice we are back at the house and Kians standing outside. I notice everyone moving around to get things back in order.

"Walking and talking." I say.

"Go help the others." he commands. I nod and quickly walk over to Crawford who is cleaning up the living room.

"hey man." I say picking up some random papers on the floor.

"hey...everything all straighten out with you and Kenzie?" he asks.

"Man i wish. She's complicated." I sigh.

"Yeah, she can be. but you gotta admit that's why you like her so much."

"I guess..." I mutter.

"So you admit you do like her." he grins.

"Yes...i like her, but don't tell Kian. I don't want to lose my job." I say.

"Your secrets safe with me."

We clean for a little bit more, but stop hearing Kenzie yell,

"Let go!" 

I look at Crawford who gives me a questioningly look back. We exit the living room and enter the hallway to see Chris hit Kenzie so hard she she flies towards the floor. I'm quick to move and catch her letting out a low growl. 

"Wow Chris." Crawford says.

"You would take her side." he shoots back. Take her side? Really? That's how he wants to play this.

"You hit Kian's sister!" Crawford crosses his arms looking just as mad as I am. 

"She honestly deserved it." Chris shrugs. Deserved it!? How could someone as sweet as kenzie deserve a slap from an asshole like him? But before I can say anything Kian and Conner walk into the hallway.

"What is going on here?" Kian asks.

"Kenzie fell and we were making sure she was alright." Chris quickly lies. I feel my throat rumble with another low growl. This asshole just keeps digging himself into a deeper hole.

"Are you alright Kenzie?" Kian looks at his sister. She looks like she's contemplating whether to tell the truth or not.

"yeah." she nods. I don't know whether I'm happy she told the truth or i'm upset she lied to her brother too, letting Chris get away with his crime.

"Chris we need your help on patrol." KIan says before turning and walking away with Conner and Chris following.

"Are you alright?" I softly ask looking into her blue eyes, trying not to get lost in them.

"I think so..." She says. I continue to stare into her eyes arguing against my better judgement of kissing her. I already told her what we had coul never happen and I knew it was a mistake as soon as it happened. But with everything calmed down between us, is it safe to venture into the shark infested territory of attemping to revive my feelings with her?

Crawford clears his throat and Kenzie shakes her head beefore standing up.

"Kenzie, i'm sorry about my brother." Crawford apologizes causing Kenzie to shake her head. 

"It's alright." She gives him a small smile then turns to me.

"We need to talk." 

Short. Simple. To the point. But she's right. We need to talk and we need to do it soon.
