As Kenzie and I walk down the street, my thoughts drift back to the North gang back home and Johnson. Surely by now the boss has sent someone after me, but who. I knew I could take down most of the guys in that gang, but it would be at the risk of Kian killing me. What if he sends Johnson cause we used to be close? Does he have the guts to pull the trigger and kill me?
I notice Kenzie studying me and look at her.
"What?" I ask
"Nothing." She looks at her sneakers.
"Then why were you staring at me?" I ask halting my walking.
"I was just...studying you." She looks at me.
"Why? Do I scare you Kenzie?" I ask. I honestly wanna know, cause if I scare her it'll be harder to protect her with her flinching from me too.
"No. I just..I don't know anything about you." She stutters.
"That's understandable..." I slowly nod.
"We'll" she asks tapping her foot in an impatient manner.
"There's nothing to say. I'm 17, got a little sister....used to have a best friend." I say starting to walk again.
"That's a start. What happened to your best friend?" She asks walking with me.
Before I can answer and say Johnson betrayed me, I hear,
"We had a couple issues he never worked out." My body goes tense and I turn to see Johnson standing there holding hands with a dark haired girl. How'd he find me so fast? Did Donté send him?
"Jack." I say my voice dropping low.
"Jack." He responds then smirks. "I see you are still messing around with girls."
"I could say the same to you." I cross my arms, letting Johnson know I'm not playing games.
"This is my girlfriend Irene Caylen." Jack says. "Things started to look up after you left." After I left!? How'd he get her to be his girlfriend so fast!? Is it a set up!?
"That's great, so why are you here?" I ask.
"To see Irene. She lives here." He puts his arm around the girl who smiles at him. He's lying. He has to be. There's no way he got out too.
"Great. You can leave." I frown
"So who is she Jack?" He asks ignoring what I said. He knows damn well who she is.
"Her name-"
"My name is Kenzie Lawley. Sister to Kian Lawley, leader of the East Side Riot Squad." Kenzie crosses her arms standing next to me. We are screwed. I'm gonna have to shoot Johnson and Irene.
"Still banging gang leaders girlfriends huh?" Jack says causing his girlfriend to laugh. What the fucks so funny?
"I'm not banging her." I say. "I'm protecting her. I've known her brother for a while Jack. Not that its any of your business." I lie but try to make it sound convincing.
"Which it isn't!" Kenzie adds. Someone shut her up.
I study jacks arm to see if he has a purple bandana and quickly see a black bandana instead.
"Gilinsky they work for JC." Kenzie cries out.
Johnson suddenly pushes Irene behind him before pulling a gun and pointing it at us. I quickly pull my gun pushing Kenzie behind me.
"And here I thought maybe something had changed." Jack tightens his grip on his gun.
"Guess not." I reply; my muscles twitch in eagerness to pull the trigger and end this whole confrontation. But can I truly shoot the guy I called my best friend?
"You are on the wrong turf Jack." We hear. I dont take my eye off Jack to see who it is, cause I already know it's Kian. This isn't gonna end well.
"Please dont shoot him." Irene begs. Not in my plans girl.
"Oh how cute, JC sent his sister." Kian says. Wait. Hold on. Sister? This mother fucker got all pissed off cause I was with Kenzie but he's doing the same plan as me?
"Just let us leave and we will never bother you again." Irene pleads. Is johnson so pathetic he needs his so called girlfriend to beg for his life?
"Go." Kian says, causing Jack to nod, grab his girlfriends hand and run off
I slowly lower my gun and turn to see Kian looking at me furious.
"What the hell were you thinking bringing her out here without back up?" He asks.
"I'm sorry! She wanted to walk because chris-"
"Do not blame Chris for your mistakes! If this happens again you are done!" Kian yells.
I can't be done. If I'm done, something will happen to Kenzie. I can't let that happen.
"You will escort her back to the house, am I clear?" Kian asks.
"Yes sir." I say before grabbing Kenzie's arm and walking back to the house.
Before we can get far, Kenzie yanks her arm away. She's gonna get me in trouble.
"Back to the house Kenzie." I demand. She looks a taken back my tone.
"Why are you being mean?" She asks.
"Do as your brother says now." I order.
"Whatever." she says before walking past me. I turn and watch her walk, letting out a breathe didn't know I was holding. This job is proving to be harder than I thought
