Ever, Echo, and the other new servants walked into the servants parlor, having been told to meet Sage and Claude there in the morning.
The servants parlor was about the same size as the main one, only less extravagant and only a few windows.
Claude and Sage stood at the wall closest to the door while the others sat or stood around the room.
"Is everyone here?" Claude asked as he looked around the room, earning a few nods. "Good. Now, I'll ask everyone but Echo and Ever to raise their right hands." Everyone but Echo and Ever did as told. "Repeat after me, if you please."
Ever and Echo, with Ronald and William at their sides, looked around the room, confused as to what was happening. Of course William and Ronald knew what was going on, but said nothing.
"I do solemnly promise, as a servant of the Michaelis household, to up hold the honor and respect of this manner and estate. I also promise to protect the master and mistress of the estate," Claude said, his eyes glowing as he spoke.
The servants with their hands raised repeated word for word what he said. They all gave a sudden loud shriek as the wrist of their right hand glowed.
Those wearing gloves had to remove them as they all looked down at their burning skin.
A crow in flight with red eyes suddenly etched itself onto their skins.
"What the devil is this?" Dagger asked, holding his arm.
"A simple trial period," Sage answered. "Once your complete trust is earned by Master Sebastian, the marks will disappear."
"And the point of this being.... what, exactly?" Wendy asked, stomping her small foot.
"It's just an insurance to make sure you and everyone else don't try any funny business while under employment here," Drocell said as he and Joker entered the room.
"We all had to do it. Don't worry. Do your work and it'll go away soon," Joker explained with a smile, making Beast blush.
"Now that we have that part covered, it's time for your job assignments," Claude said.
"Doll and Beast, the two of you will be working with me on interior design. It'll be our job to make sure the mansion is in neat order and to the Masters liking," Sage said, looking at said girls, making them nod eagerly.
"Jumbo, Snake, and Dagger, you three'll be on security detail. After our last... unexpected visit, the Master would like to keep the estate less easy to trespass on," Claude said, looking at Echo and Ever.
"Peter and Wendy, since the two of you have experience with high places, you'll be in charge of dusting," Sage said, liking the happy expressions on the two children's faces. "Hannah, you'll be the maid." Hannah nodded to them.
"Alright, head out to your duties," Claude clapped.
Everyone with job assignments left.
"What about us?" Echo asked when everyone was gone.
"Follow us, please," Sage said as she and Claude walked out the door, Echo and Ever, plus Joker and Drocell, following behind but going another way.
They took many twists, turns, and stairs before they reached Sebastian's office.
Claude knocked once on the door.
"Come in," a velvety voice said from the other side.
The four of them entered.
Sebastian was seated behind his black oak desk, papers laid out before him and in his hand. He looked up at them.
"Ah, I was wondering when you'd arrive," Sebastian said as he put down the papers. "Has everyone else been assigned?"
