*I'm sorry. I should have mentioned this sooner. Maria does have a British accent, but not so much of one that you can't understand what she's saying. Imagine Natalie Portman when she played Evey in V for Vendetta, if you're familiar with the movie. If not, you should check it out.*
Maria sat in the parlor as Sebastian prepared her a cup of tea. She'd have gotten it herself, but Sebastian had insisted.
"So Maria, have you changed your mind about the birthday party?" Sebastian asked as he put the teacup on the decorative saucer.
"No, Sebastian," Maria sighed. "We've been over this."
Sebastian looked at her for a moment, cup and saucer in hand, before he himself sighing and handing her the drink. He held the side for a moment, looking her in the eye.
"Last chance to change your mind about the party," Sebastian said, almost in a warning. She raised a brow in confusion at him. He let go of the cup, sighing. "Alright."
By some animal instinct, she sniffed the tea and shut her eyes as the heavenly aroma filled her senses.
It smelled of wild roses, fresh dew drops and mist in the morning, the air before it rained, and some other scent she couldn't quite place. The other smells were masking it.
"Rosemary, ginger roots, and honey milk. Am I right?" Maria asked as she opened her eyes.
"Spot on as ever," Sebastian smiled.
She took a sip and swallowed the warm liquid. It flowed easily down her throat, leaving behind a heavenly before and after taste.
She couldn't help but down the tea in a mere minute. She tasted a powdery substance at the bottom, but ignored it, thinking it to be tea leaves.
'Wait,' she thought, 'Sebastian's usually careful enough to keep the leaves out of the tea cup.'
She stared down at her teacup for a moment before looking up at the continually smiling crow demon.
"S-Sebastian...." she stammered.
"Did you know that ginger roots, when combined with rosemary and honey milk, can put the body and mind into a deep sleep?" Sebastian asked as she stood up shackingly and backed away from him. Each of his steps matched hers.
"Why... did you do... that... to me?" she asked as the room began to spin and her vision danced in front of her.
"I asked you to change your mind, but you refused. I see no other way of doing things," Sebastian said as he continually walked toward her, chuckling when her back hit the wall and a scared expression came to her face.
"Sebastian.... Plea-... Please, do not..." she stammered, doing a double take.
Why was she talking like that?
However, she didn't have time to think about it. Her body was shacking violently and her legs threatened to give out on her as she quickly went numb.
Her body trembled, not from the numbness that threatened to take her under, but from the intense fear that flowed like venom through her veins.
For the first time, she was afraid of him and what he'd do to her.
She couldn't hold back the whimper that escaped her lips.
"Shhhhh-shhhhh-shhhh," Sebastian cooed as he came to stand before her. He caught her as she fell forward, her head pressed against his chest and her small hands gripped his muscular arms. Her breathing came out quick and labored. He leaned down to whisper in her ear as he gently began to stroke her long, raven hair. "Do not fight it, love. Just drift off to sleep."
