We walk into Pat's house, and it's huge. Nothing like mine. "This is Pat's father," she introduces me to his dad.
"Hi," I say to him, nervously.
"Hi, you must be one of Pat's friends, right?" He asks.
"Yes, I'm his friend Jennifer, but I prefer to be called Jen," I say, "nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too," he replies, "do your parents know you're here?" To be honest, I completely forgot about Bob.
"Yeah," I lie, "they know, they're going to pick me up."
"Come on, Jen, let's go to my room," Pat says to me, leading me upstairs.
"He has a girlfriend!" His mom shouts to me as we walk up the stairs. A girl, probably his sister, storms out of her room.
"Me and Duncan broke up again!" She shouts angrily.
"Woah, calm down Lola," Pat says to her, "you are making this way more of a big deal than it should be."
"No I'm not!" Lola shrieks, and Pat's mom comes up the stairs. She drags Lola into her room, and they start talking about the break up. We walk into Pat's room, and I throw my bag on the floor. He does the same, jumping onto his bed. I take my gameboy out of my bag before jumping up beside him. He grabs his off of a desk, and he loads up Mario. I want him to put his arm around me, but we just met, and that's a little far-fetched. I mean, I barely know him. I join his game, and we play for a while, about an hour. Suddenly, Pat's phone starts ringing.
"It's Frannie," he says to me, "be quiet and don't move, she's face timing me." I do as he says, and be as quiet as I can be. This is easy, because I'm always quiet.
Pat's POV
I answer her face time. "Hey Frannie," I say nonchalantly, "how are you?"
"Good," she replies, "are you at home?" "Yes," I say, praying that she doesn't want to come over.
"Can I come over?" She asks, "we should hang out." Dang it.
"Um... I'm busy right now, maybe some other time," I tell her, hoping that she won't ask what I'm doing.
"Don't put me off like that, Patrick," she says to me, "you better not have another girl over." Jen giggles. She only calls me Patrick when she is mad at me or annoyed.
"Look, I'm busy," I say to her, "you can't come over."
"What are you doing?" She asks sweetly.
"I'm... Um..." I start to say, but I can't think of an excuse.
"You just don't want to hang out with me, that's it," she seems very mad at me, furious.
"Fine, my sister broke up with Duncan again, and my mom doesn't want anyone to come over," she seems to believe me, good.
"You better not be hanging out with any other girls, Patrick," she asserts, and Jen giggles again. I lightly kick her with my foot, and she stops. "Bye," Frannie chirps, blowing me a kiss. She hangs up before I can even say goodbye. Jen moves up next to me.
"Patrick," she says in a mocking tone, laughing.
"Be quiet," I reply, laughing as well. I really like her. My mom walks out of Lola's room, and into mine.
"How are you two doing?" She asks us.
"Good," Jen replies, "we were just playing Mario."
"Did you kiss him?!" Mom asks Jen angrily. I wish.
"No," Jen replies, glancing at me. I hope she feels the same way.
"Ok, if you need anything, let me know," mom reminds us, walking down the stairs, "oh, and Frannie called. She wants to come over, soJen has to leave." What!?
"She face timed me, and I told her that I was busy," I reply. "Look, she's coming over, and you two need to hang out. Maybe even kiss a little," she remarks, then leaves, probably to go tell Frannie that she can come over.
"I'm sorry Jen, but someone needs to come pick you up. I wish you could stay," I say to Jen, practically crying.
"Me too," she whispers, tears forming in her eyes. I look around, to make sure that no one is watching us, then hug her. She smiles at me, and I wipe the tears from her eyes.
"You should call Bob, see if he can bring you home," I whisper, breaking away from the hug.
"Yeah, he doesn't even know I'm here." Jen pulls out her phone, and dials Bob's number.
Jen's POV
"Bob?" I say into the phone, scared to death.
"Yeah, where are you!?" He screams.
"I... I went to my friends house," I tell him, "and I was wondering if you could pick me up."
"What the hell Jen!" He yells, "you have to get a ride! I invited Courtney over because you weren't home, what the hell!!! You are such an idiot!!" I just want to break down and start crying, but I can't with Pat here. His mom comes running up the stairs.
"Is she gone?" She asks Pat.
"No," he answers, "she needs a ride home."
"Fine, I guess I'll just have to bring her home then," she huffs, clearly annoyed. "Hurry up and get ready, Pat, put on a nicer shirt and pants, Frannie will be here any minute." She pushes me out the door, and I quickly wave goodbye to him.
"See you later, hopefully," I whisper as his mom drags me down the stairs. "Let's go, Frannie's here," she says to me, and I just want to hide. I don't want Pat to be bullied because of me. We rush out the door, and I open the car door as fast as I can. I jump into the passenger side seat and slump down so Frannie doesn't see me.
"He's upstairs in his room, Fran, he's just getting ready," I hear Pat's mom say to Frannie, "I'm just bringing his friend back to her house, uh, what's her name, uh..." I hope she doesn't remember. "I forget her name. Anyway, he should be ready any minute now." His mom gets in the car, then starts the engine. We drive away in silence. I tell her my address, and she slowly drives me home.
