Thomas' POV

"Sir, would you like the 'it-is-a-very-beautiful-day-to-pine-against-a-blond-bloke' coffee? Or you prefer other options?"

"Brenda, please. I always love those."

"Right away."

Brenda isn't blabbering; I am pining over a blond bloke. And it is a beautiful day for it.

Beep. Beep. 11 am.

Jesus, here comes.

Ting-ting. The bell goes off, letting in the best and worst person to set the eyes on.

God, I hate myself.

o( ❛ᴗ❛ )o

"The same, Sir?" Shimmying against the other customers lurking around the favorite coffeeshop.

"Yes, if you would. Thank you." God damn, the accent.

"Name, please?"

"Come on, you know my name already Brenda." he chuckles. A short story of mirth.

"Please?" Brenda batted her eyes for good measure.

"Fine. But–wait. I have a good alternative." he said, wiggling his eyebrows. "Newtie. A nickname I got. I was bored so I thought of another name that isn't far away from Newt. "

Newtie. It sounded good rolling on my tongue. Hm.

"Wh–What is that?"

"Hmm?" I asked, ignoring the fact that Newt is talking to me.

"Did I just hear you saying my name?"

Oh, Jesus Christ.

(༶ૢ˃̵̑◡˂̵̑༶ૢ)

"I–um.." Eloquent enough, Thomas. Eloquent enough.

"Are–are you eavesdropping?"

Well, it's not technically; is it?

"It's just that–you are...–I mean I'm not eavesdropping! I swear! I'm–"

"Sorry for interrupting, sir, but your order is here!" Brenda shouted from the counter.

"Oh! Okay. Thanks Brenda."

Before he could utter a word at me, I bolted out the door and out in the blue. Thank God for her or I would've been embarrassed as hell.

But after the ting-ting of the bell, I could hear someone asking Brenda a question:

"Who is that guy?"

(ノ≧ڡ≦)

All throughout the week, it became more awkward for us. It's all just secret glances forth and back and the same time Newt comes in the store. I'm still earlier than him though. Sometimes 2 to 3 seconds of eye contact and it will be broken.

Then again, I always go out of the store first than him.

And Brenda's still there, looking plain, normal and simple. I love her for that. She stabilise everything that's wrong with me. But then, she's also the reason for all the nagging I am hearing everyday telling me to "talk to Newt" or "just say 'hi' to him". It's really not that simple when there's a tendency that not everything you plan on is gonna work. Right?

For the least of y'all worries, I tried. I tried and I failed because my nerves–definitely my nerves–got the best of me and I quickly sat down after 0.1 seconds of courage to stand up and talk to him.
