Throughout the party Elliot and Olivia avoided one another as much as they could while acting like they were madly in love. Their thoughts were focused on the kiss, they didn't know where it would leave them. It wasn't supposed to happen.
It was midnight once everyone left, leaving Olivia feeling extremely tired. She was making her way up the stairs, gripping the railing as hard as she could. Elliot was helping her father clean up so she didn't have he usual help she had. She was half way up the stairs when she felt a pair of arms help her.
"Are you okay, darling?" It was her mother who was beside her.
She nodded with a weak look on her face. "I'm just tired."
"I know you're tired but you look upset." She looked at her with concern. "Did you and Elliot get into a fight?"
Her heart sank at his name, she didn't know what to feel about him. It wasn't apart of their plan to actually fall in love. "No." She muttered.
Claire laughed lightly, knowing that it was complete lie. They finally made it up the stairs and into their bedroom. "You can tell me."
Olivia shook her head and sighed. "Mom, it's okay."
She bite down on her bottom lip, not sure if she should continue badgering her or not. But she let it go once she saw the sad smile on her daughters face. "Alright, honey. Sleep well."
"Thanks mom." Olivia replied, tears already at the brim of her eyes.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
And with that she walked out the door, closing it behind her. Olivia quickly wiped away her tears and shook her head, it was rare to hear those words from her mother. She got ready to go to sleep, the thought of talking to Elliot made her rush even though she struggled intensely to put her clothes and take them off.
Minutes later and Elliot opened the door and walked in, immediately going into his closet to change. Finally with a lot of hesitation he joined Olivia in their bed.
"Goodnight." She politely told him, turning over.
He sighed and debated with himself if he should talk to her. "Olivia."
She tensed up at the sound of his voice, he only said her full name if he was serious. Her eyes were closed, hoping that she would just fall asleep.
"I know you're awake."
Olivia remained laying down but then slowly sat up. "What's up?"
He chewed on his bottom lip and ran a hand through his hair in nervousness. "I-well-I just wanted to talk to you." He stammered.
She tried to play dumb. "About what?"
His eyes rolled but hesitated to answer her question. "We should add another rule."
Olivia knew exactly what he was talking about as she looked over at him, the day they went to Robins Diner. She remembered that car ride clearly and the rules, they broke the first one they made. "Okay."
"We can't fall in love." He quickly told her, his eyes met with hers for a second but he looked away.
She didn't know how to reply, her heart ached at the rule but she agreed. "Sounds good."
He nodded.
"Falling in love wasn't supposed to be apart of the baby plan anyway."
It grew eerily silent once she said that. They were both looking at the wall in front of them.
"Besides, we're better of just being best friends." He added painfully.
She nodded. "I couldn't agree with you more." Her hands began to play in her lap, she looked down and a sad smile formed on her lips. "Besides you have bad spilt ends." She joked.
He looked over at her with confusion, a smile forming on his lips. "Don't bring my hair into this." He joked back.
A light laugh left her lips and she looked back at him. "They're just so bad."
He rolled his eyes and began to lay down, his back facing her."I can't believe I have such a jerk for a best friend."
She laughed and did the same.
They laid there in silence, their eyes wide open.
Nothing could bring them back to the way they were before this baby plan.
