I woke up and groggily pushed off the itchy covers. My new room already looked like a tornado came through it, Jean would be pissed. Even I was a mess, my hair was all ratty and tangly, my pajamas needed to be washed, and some of my eyeliner smeared from yesterday when I was too lazy to take off my makeup.
"Great," I mumbled to myself and got out of the bed. I quickly made it, the pink and white striped comforter folded nicely and worked with my old pillows perfectly. I went to my shared bathroom with my foster sister Andrea, who was still asleep.
I turned on the shower and while it got hot enough, stripped myself of my dirty clothes and got s fresh towel out. I was very self conscious about my body, so I locked both doors, and played Troye Sivan off my Chromebook. Finally, the shower was hot enough, so I entered it, and instantaneously got hit with scalding hot water. It felt nice and comforting.
Soon I was done with my shower, pulled on my clothes, a black shirt and jeans with white socks, and unlocked both doors. Andrea was now awake in the other room on her own chromebook. She saw me and waved warmly at me.
"Hey, Xan." She said. I hated my name so much, Xanthippe, it was like a dog throwing up but couldn't quite do it yet. Xanthippe.
I waved back, "Hey, Andrea. Need to take a shower?"
She nodded, "Yeah. Could you get a towel out for me? I'll be in in a second."
"Sure." I closed the door behind me and pulled out a green towel, her towel, and folded it nicely on the counter. I left the bathroom and re-entered my own room, where a new email was waiting for me.
Dear Xanthippe Grace Turner,
Hello dear! It is Mrs. Pennywell again, just to check up on you. We miss you here, at the orphanage, but you may be getting a huge surprise soon. I won't say anything yet, but very soon!
Hope you have had a lovely week without the screaming children here. <3
Love you xoxo,
Mrs. Pennywell

A surprise. What kind of surprise? I needed to know, my mind was urging me to ask her- but then it wouldn't be a surprise... Would it?
"Ugh," I flopped on my bed and thought about what the surprise could be. A new child at the orphanage, finally getting my own box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch if I go back there, maybe even getting adopted.
That's not possible.
I'm a freak.
A weirdo.
The girl you laugh at at school because she wears Pokemon sweaters and dances in the rain.
People say I shouldn't even have been given a life, that I'm so strange and alien like that I don't deserve to breath.
Maybe they are right.

Andrea woke me up in the late afternoon. The sky casted a strange glow in my room, making my skin look sickly pale. Andrea came over to me and hugged me.
"You okay?" She asked, mumbling into my shirt.
"Yeah. Just nervous. Maybe my anxiety." I replied, pulling my hair out of my face, but continuing to hug her. She was like a sister to me already, nice, sweet, caring, and the same age as me.
Andrea nodded and we left the hug. She sat down at my desk, "Maybe you are getting adopted, Xan. You never know. Maybe there is a gut feeling that you're getting that means someone is writing down on a piece of paper your name and signing their own."
I bit my lip, "Mrs. Pennywell told me there would be a surprise soon."
She jumped out of my wooden chair, "That means something good!"
"Or could mean a brat taking over my room." I replied, shrugging.
Andrea shook her head, "It's gonna be something good, I have a feeling about it."
I smirked at her, walking over to her and embracing my foster sister in yet another hug. She smelled like vanilla cupcakes and was so sweet to me. I wish that we could be sisters in real life.
