Zoe's POV
I left the house with Alfie asleep on the couch. He stayed up all night trying to tidy up Xan's new room. I bit my lip and grabbed my key, jangling them softly as I locked the door behind me and stepped out into the cool, crisp air. Soon, I would be meeting my daughter.
It felt strange to say that, Daughter, still a foreign word to my tongue. I knew I would have to get used to saying that to fans, "Here's Xan, my daughter." But the same time it seemed new and exciting to adopt a young girl. When I first went to the adoption agency I was looking for babies, and of course there were none, little children were either brats or too unsocial, and finally I was fed up. Scrolling through the binder of teenagers, I found Xanthippe.
That's where this all began. And now I'm meeting her for the first time.
It took twenty minutes from our surburban home to her school. I needed to remember the directions in my head instead of using maps on my iPhone, she wouldn't be impressed. I needed to know this stuff if I'll be picking her up the rest of this year (5 more months). I drive fast the entire way, anxious and nervous, thoughts going inside my head as I drove, picking up speed as I left the main road. Four minutes, her classes aren't done yet. Two minutes, she should be out soon. I could see the school and pulled into the parking lot, finding a spot easily. I grabbed my phone from the holder and bit my lip, waiting for her. I hope she got a note or something that a Mini Cooper would be picking her up, she would get the hint quickly.
I looked up from my phone and saw students mingling and talking with parents in the rain. I didn't want to get my dress dirty and my shoes muddy. I could see Xanthippe departing school a few minutes later, after the majority of kids left, soaked from head to toe.
She looked around the parking lot until she eyes laid on my car. She only saw the car and not me. I waved close to the dashboard and finally saw Xan start walking to the car, dragging along a broken umbrella. Xan walked over to the passenger side and slid in.
"Hello, Xan!" I exclaimed. She turned from her backpack to me.
"So you are Zoella then?" She asked as if unimpressed.
I nodded, "So you have heard of me?"
"My foster sister is obsessed with you. Sorry to bring that up." She said, pulling the wet pieces of hair off her face and continuing, "so you are adopting me then?"
"Yup!" I nodded again. Her straight face turned into a grin and she pulled off her rain jacket, "Is it okay if I-" she said, pointing to her backpack and jacket to go in the back.
"Yeah of course." I started. "So, since you now know about me and all that, we are going back to my house. I want you to meet your new dad, Alfie."
"HIS NAME IS ALFIE!" Xan squealed.
"Yeah?"
"I LOVE THAT NAME!" (A/n: my boyfriends name is Alfie lmao <33)
I giggled, "Well than you'll love him."
We pulled out of the parking lot and I suggested to pick up some ice cream. She nodded excitedly and pulled out some crumpled money from her pocket. "No! Xan, I'm paying!"
She laughed, "Thanks. I'm just not used to having people buy stuff for me."
"Your welcome. You'll be my daughter, why can't I treat you?"
As we drove up to the ice cream place, Xan bit her lip and began clenching her fists. She seemed to be having a panic attack.
"XAN? Xan? Sweetie?" I said. "Oh, shit."
DON'T WORRY XAN WON'T DIE! IM JUST PUTTING ZOE'S MOTHERLY SKILLS TO THE TEST!
