My heart stopped, as did my breathing, as he inched closer in the room. I searched my pockets for my phone but I spotted it on the bed sheets. Crap.

Zoe was curled up in a ball under the bed shaking like a leaf. I didn't want to be here. He killed Caspar because he knew too much and now he was coming to finish me off.

He knew we where in the house somewhere, but he had to find us. We had to get out somehow.

Alfie walked out of the room and I heard him go down the stairs. I stepped out of the wardrobe quietly and gestured to Zoe that we needed to leave. At that moment, Marcus walked into the room and I froze.

Everything went into slow motion as we stared each other down. My breathing stopped and Marcus looked lost. After what seemed like hours, Marcus just walked out of the room. I furrowed my eyebrows as I looked at Zoe, her facial expression mirroring my own.

Why has he left us? Did he even see us? "Are be bloody ghosts?" Zoe finished off my questioning.

"Right now, I hope so." I replied quietly. I creeped to the door to see Marcus shout to Alfie.

"There's no one up here. I've double checked everywhere." He looked directly at me as he said that, before walking down the stairs.

"Is he tricking us?" By this time, Zoe had joined me by my side.

"I don't know." I said as Zoe backed into the room picking up my phone and dialling the police. I ushered her into my bathroom as she spoke to them as I locked the bedroom door.

I had no idea what was going on. Alfie obviously had intent to hurt me, but Marcus saw me, twice and didn't even flinch. It was like I wasn't even there. Zoe was right, it was probably a trap. They knew we were there. Both our cars plus Joe's was still on the driveway, my phone was in sight, the Tv was still blaring away downstairs.

Keeping my ear to the door, but I heard nothing. Gripping the cricket bat in my hand I went to open the door when Zoe stopped me. "They're outside." She mouthed pointing to the phone. "We've been told to stay put."

Relief swept though me as I suddenly heard shouting from the front of the house. I distinctly heard shouts from Alfie and Marcus as they were detained. I couldn't help myself. I opened the door and ran down stairs to the front door where I saw them being taken away.

I stopped in my tracks when I saw something I wasn't expecting. Joe.
