In every person's life, there comes a time when certain relationships need to end. They can always vary as to what type of relationship...coworker, friend, significant other, etc. You'll have an epiphany and realize they have to go and then, you make sure they never enter your life again...or at least you hope not.

"Kailie! Come on! We are going to be late for the 'Welcoming Freshman Week' if you don't get your ass in gear!" Mandy yelled from the ajar front door.

"Coming, coming! Crap, hold on, forgot my phone charger. Heaven forbid we leave that." I hollered  from the back hallway.

As I pulled the plug from the outlet on the pale yellow wall, I looked around my room one last time.

"Man, I'm going to miss this room...and my comfy bed. For the next four years I'll be forced to sleep on a crap-o mattress that too many teens have slept on before me. They are probably flat by now. Ugh. Thank goodness I'll have my down comforter and fuzzy blankets."

I wind the cord of the charger around the square plug and shove it in my purse then head out of my room towards the front entrance.

"Alright, I'm ready to go! Rainsville University, here...we...come!!!" I squealed as I stepped out the front door.

I ran down the front steps and threw my green paisley duffle bag in the back seat through the window. That was just one bag amongst the many that were stuffed in the back of Mandy's Equinox.

"Man, we really know how to pack huh?" Mandy said sarcastically. "I think we may have forgotten some things because I can still see out my rearview mirror."

Shaking my head, I looked at her and laughed. "This is nothing compared to what we will be getting while we are living down there. We'll have to recruit people to help us bring things back!"

"Ain't that the truth. Maybe by then, we will have made friends with some manly men that'll be more than happy to help us with our things." Mandy said hopefully as she put on her seat belt and turned on the vehicle.

As Mandy starts to pull away from the curb, I give a dramatic sigh. I look over at her and then back at my house. It'll be sad to leave the familiarity of it all, but the excitement of a completely new adventure trumps everything in this moment.

************

"Holy crap!! This is AMAZING!!!" I said jumping out of the vehicle. I was the more excited one as Mandy tried to play it off cool. That was the one thing about her I liked most, she was the calm, cool headed one that always knew how to stand her ground. She would tell it like it is, even if you didn't like what she had to say. Me on the other hand, I was the more optimistic, excited and free spirited one. They always say opposites attract, and in this case they totally did as best friends.

After the torturous amount of time it took us to pack everything up to our fourth floor dorm room, we both flopped onto the bed and sighed.

"This is it." Mandy said "This is where our lives officially begin."

"I...can...not...freaking...wait!" I squealed!

Mandy just laughs, shakes her head and jumps off the bed looking at the mess we have of a dorm room. All the bags, boxes, hampers and blankets were thrown askew from us trying to carry as many things as possible each time, so we didn't have to make many trips. I'm sure people thought we were crazy.

"After we find somewhere to eat on campus, we have to get back here and figure out what we are going to do with all this mess."

"That works for me. Hopefully there is some good food here because I'm freaking starving!!"

We settle for Chic-fil-A since it seems to be a campus staple along with Taco Bell and a sushi joint. Sushi was never my thing, so I nixed that one as soon as we spotted it. Blah, who wants to eat raw fish?

Once we stuff our faces full of waffle fries and chicken sandwiches, we make our way back towards the dormitory. It's one of the prettier ones for a freshman to be living in. Only five stories, pale red brick and nice sized rooms. Since Mandy and I got lucky with one of the corner rooms, ours was slightly bigger than the others, which was awesome! We start to organize all of our things and hang up decorations. It comes together pretty nicely actually.

As I'm putting up the final touches over my bed, Mandy's cell phone rings.

"Hey, what's up?" she says excitedly in the phone. It was more than likely her boyfriend Stephen. They have been together for about four years now, so I guess you could say they are pretty serious. Luckily they went to the same school, or I could see things going a different direction.

"YES! Of course we will come! What time should we be there? 9:30? Awesome! Can't wait!" she squeals once she hangs up and looks at me.

"You will not believe where we are going tonight!! We get to attend the first Frat party of the school year!

I have never seen her this excited before in the entire time I've known her, which is 10 years. Normally I'm the one bouncing up and down about stuff so it was pretty nice to see actually. I smile really big at her and try to contain my excitement.

"Ahhhhhh! I can't wait! What kind of party is it? Like a themed party or just a regular one? Holy crap. Do I even have anything to wear?!" I start to panic as I look through my closet frantically looking for something cute to wear. "First impressions are everything and here I am not going to have anything at all. Crap, crap, crap."

"Calm down girl, jeeze. If you can't find anything you want to wear of yours, you can always borrow something of mine. I don't mind at all. You know that."

Another one of the many reasons Mandy was my best friend. She always calmed me down and reminded me not to freak out over little things. And luckily we are the same size and can borrow each other's clothes. Definite plus because she has amazing style.

"You are a life savverrrr!" I run to the other side of the room and bear hug her. I know she is making a face right now since she always does when someone hugs her, but I really don't care at the moment since she just saved me from spending an arm and a leg at the mall.

"I know, I know. You can thank me later when you are dragging my drunk ass self back to our dorm tonight." She winks at me and starts laughing.

"Awww man, does that mean I have to be DD?" I whine as I pull out a short black dress from her closet. "Because guys are going to think I look really hot in this and I would prefer to at least be a little tipsy wearing it."

"Of course you can be silly, I'm just messing with you. It is literally a five minute walk across campus to the Frat house, so we don't have to drive. We just need to make sure we semi-sober up before heading back over here. I don't really have a feel as to how our RA reacts to these kinds of things yet. Plus we can't be too plastered since our Freshman Orientation is tomorrow starting at 10. Ugh, who made these things so early anyway?"

She leans across me and pulls out a short, red, strapless dress that was in the far corner.

"Whoa, that looks like something the devil would wear." I say laughing.

"Exactly." She winks as a sly smile spreads across her face. "That's exactly why I'm wearing it.
