I tried not be jealous when Josh asked to invite Reemee to the carnival. But it really got difficult when they were walking along like that in the hall before first hour with their heads press together like dogs drinking from the same spot at the water bowl. But I guess that it made sense. However great friends Reemee and I were, the offer would be much better coming from him. I tend to be a little- abrasive.
But all that was over now. We were on the grounds of the carnival, with the blinking lights and the whirring rides. I'm trying to think back to things that happened amidst cotton candy and over priced hot dogs, but not much is coming up. Brennan is really bad at bowling. Josh is good at ring toss and he got me a panda bear from it. Weston and Amber are the weirdest pseudo-couple. All they do together is compliment themselves. Reemee has the strongest stomach out of all of us, which is unsurprising if you think about it. But when you watch somebody down four hotdogs and a two liter of soda and immediately go on two rollercoasters without breaking a sweat, you get impressed.
No, but the thing that really stuck to my memory is the bathroom. I know, it sounds weird, but it's true. It wasn't way slimy, or gross. I didn't actually get a good luck at the bathroom itself. I remember it because the girls did what girls do, piling into the four-stall place. Only Ree needed to actually do anything, but we all went anyway. Reemee turned on the faucet and went into a stall. Probably to wretch up all the hotdogs. (story of her life) And Amber and I stayed out to wait for her and talk. I personally didn't enjoy Amber, but she seemed to be the rumor windmill herself, so she had no shortage of things to talk about. Whenever the breeze fell through, Amber was there to catch it.
She figured that Reemee liked Josh (correct), Brennan liked Reemee (correct I think) and Josh liked me (What), which was such a shame because I liked Brennan (Not correct). "Why does everyone think I like Superman?" I said, trying to keep my voice down below the faucet. Amber rolled her eyes so forcefully I thought her false eyelashes might fall off. "It's so obvious, that's why."
It was getting increasingly difficult to keep myself from flat out letting Reemee in on the secret that she didn't seem to care for. "I don't like Brennan." I hissed at Amber. "I like Josh."
The O her mouth made was comical. "That does make a little sense. You guys spend a lot of time together." She said, too loudly even though her volume hadn't changed. I hushed her. "So why aren't you together?" She asked, only a titch quieter. Then was the loudest whisper-sigh that I have ever emitted. "Because everybody thinks that I like Brennan." Amber shrugged her tiny shoulder. "That would make it difficult." I felt like I was stuck in a loop of stupid. Some kind of a slow roller coaster that nobody riding knew they were on. 'Are we going up? No, we can't be. I've been on a roller coaster and this is not what it feels like.'
I sighed again, only for the roller coaster to go downhill again. "Does Josh know that you like him?" I licked my lips. "No, and he won't ever." I tried to ignore Amber's snarling and pleading eyes that screamed Please do what I want you to do. Dance for me, puppet. "How do you know he likes me?" I hissed, her smile a poison dancing in my blood. "How do you know he doesn't like Ree?" I gestured towards the stall door. "Come on, Cammie." She nearly spat with a grin. "Who did he invite to this first? All his eggs in a basket- but you were prime picking." I tried to ignore her poisonous tone. "You can't be s-"
Reemee walked out and smiled at the two of us. It was silent for what felt like ages until Ree said nervously, "That took a while, sorry." Then she laughed nervously. I tried to join in, but my mind was preoccupied with the words 'prime picking'. It disgusted me, those words. Would Josh think of those words? He couldn't, he was too nice. His words were made of honey on normal days. If he really liked me-
"Cammie, are you okay?" I came to suddenly, to a hand in front of my face. Josh's hand. "Oh yeah, I'm fine. Just tired." Josh shrugged, slinging one arm over my shoulder. "We can go home if you don't feel well, Cams." Subconsciously, I glanced at Ree. She was preoccupied with Brennan, seeing how much cotton candy they could fit in their mouths. I leaned into Josh, casting my eyes to the bathroom building, then at Amber with Weston. This was quite the song we were playing.
