Ch 29

Bucky and Micky were just finishing trying a restaurant of sushi. Bucky had a pout on his face and Micky smiled big

"Chopsticks are useless" Bucky muttered. Micky giggled

"You were lucky I was here to feed you" Micky said causing Bucky to blush, Micky giggled even more "Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it"

Sudden screams brought their attention. They looked up to see a lot of smoke in the sky

"Wait, isn't that way-?"

"the animal shelter" Micky cut Bucky off before rushing to her car. Bucky followed and they both drove as fast as they could to the animal shelter. Micky's face paled when she noticed the big flames. She saw Richie, the guy Bucky met the first day he went. He was outside coughing. She instantly ran to him

"What happened?" She asked

"I don't know *cough* some dude came and threw some bottles with alcohol around and then a match *cough* he said he was looking for the man with the metal arm" Richie continued coughing not noticing the look Bucky and Micky shared

"Where are the animals?" Micky demanded

"I already called the firefighters" Richie said

"WHERE ARE THE ANIMALS?" Richie didn't answer. That was all the answer Micky needed. She sprinted into the flames

"Micky wait!" Bucky and Richie called, but only Bucky ran after her. He found her in the clinic opening cages and letting the animals out

"Help me open them!" She asked

"You're crazy!" He yelled but helped either way. The animals all ran away except for the one they had saved the day before, he was still healing "I'll get him"

Before he could get close enough. A piece of ceiling fell, Micky had sensed it before it happened and was able to knock Bucky out of the way. His cap fell off and Micky landed above him

"You ok?" She asked

"Yeah" he answered and sat up. His jacket had set of fire so he had to take it off leaving his metal arm to clear sight

Bucky picked up the injured dog and started getting out the door. Micky was about to follow when she heard a whine. A puppy was stuck in a cage. She returned and unstuck the puppy. Just as she was leaving, another piece of ceiling fell. Her foot stuck under it. Bucky was already outside and put the injured dog next to Richie

"Where's Micky?" Richie asked. Bucky turned around and his stomach dropped when he noticed Micky wasn't coming out

"I'll get her" Bucky said and ran in again "Micky!" He called

"Over here!" He heard her. He ran to the direction of her voice and crounched next to her "it's stuck" she said looking at her foot. Bucky looked at it and noticed the piece of concrete over it

"Ok. I'll lift it. I need you to slid out, ok?"

"Yeah" With some struggle. Bucky managed to pull the piece of concrete up and Micky slid out "I'm out!" Bucky dropped the piece of ceiling

"Can you walk?" He asked

"Yeah. But I can't run" she said

"Then it's a good thing I'm here" he said and picked her up bridal style. Micky was also still protecting the puppy from the flames. They ran out. The ambulances and firefighters were already there. Bucky quickly took Micky to an ambulance "Her foot is injured" he told the paramedics

"My partner will take care of her. What about you?" A woman paramedic asked

"I'm fine. Just help her" Bucky insisted

"Bucky" Micky called and Bucky was instantly by his side taking her hand

"I'm here" he said. Micky smiled at him

"Thank you" she said. Bucky tried smiling back but he was too worried and angry

"Someone did this. Someone who was looking for me" he said

"We'll figure it out. Ok?" Micky said. They looked around and noticed the crowd "Do you have the keys to our apartment?" Bucky nodded "Good. Go there. It's best if no one recognixes you. I promise I'll be there as soon as I can"

"I don't want to leave you" Bucky said

"And I don't want Hydra or the government taking you away from me. It'll be just a couple hours. I promise, ok?" She said "Go"

Bucky had an internal battle with himself. Finally, he decided to listen to Micky. He kissed her head and left still worried

Bucky paced in the apartment for hours. He tried watching TV, reading, eating. Nothig worked. His head snapped up when he heard the door open. Micky came in and he instantly went to check on her

"Are you ok?" He asked

"Twisted ankle. Nothing major. What about you? You didn't have the chance to be checked" she asked worriedly

"I'm fine" he said "And... the shelter?" He asked

"The insurance covers fires. The animals were put into other shelters temporarly" she said a little bit sad "No one died, not even animals. But some escaped"

"I'm sorry" Bucky said

"It's not your fault-"

"It is" Bucky said "Richard said a man asked for me, the man with the metal arm, he lit up an animal shelter because of me"

"It sounds wrong. The government wouldn't-"

"It wasn't the government" Bucky said sourly "Only Hydra would steep so low" a chill ran through Micky's spine, she knew Hydra wasn't completely gone after SHIELD fell, but she hoped she would never have to worry about them

"Listen. Don't worry about it. They will never find you here. They'll look in hotel rooms and warehouses, not apartments" Bucky doubted it

"I don't want to put you in danger" Bucky said

"You don't put me in danger. It's fine, I'm not letting you just leave" she said and Bucky set his jaw

"There were photographers, my arm was exposed-"

"It'll be fine, ok? No one will suspect you're here" Bucky still looked unsure, Micky pulled him into a hug and he hugged back

"I don't want you to get hurt because of me" Bucky said

"I won't" she said giving him a kiss in the cheek
