“Cody, wake up or you’re going to be late!” Cody moaned as he opened his eyes to an impatient Jacob. “Come on man, get dressed!” Cody got up. He noticed his trunk in the corner. Mr. Opic must’ve brought it like he said. He pulled on jeans and a T-shirt and didn’t even bother with his hair.

Jacob hurried him out the door. “I couldn’t wake you up for breakfast! Come on, I’ll bring you to your 1st period ELA.” Cody felt himself being dragged.

Finally, he his mind kicked into “awake and alert” mode. Jake shoved him into a classroom. “Have fun in English class!” And Jacob was gone.

Cody looked at the teacher. She was tall with blond hair. She looked over at him. “New student Cody Smith right?” Cody nodded. “You sit there,” she said, pointing to a desk on the far side near the front.

Cody avoided looking at the curious stares before he sat down. “Cody, you’ll have to get a binder.” He nodded again, unsure of what else to do. “Okay class; open your books to page 344!” Cody watched kids pull out text books from under their chairs. He copied them and opened to the page. He moaned. Great, even in dragon school they read the Diary of Anne Frank!

After English, he followed his schedule to a room near by for Dragon History. The teacher was a young man with spiky black hair who, thankfully, put him in the back on the far side of the classroom.

Class was interesting. They were learning about origins of dragons. Cody listened to the teacher talk about the legend of fire dragons until the bell rang yet again. He nearly smiled as he walked out of the room. He was going to like Dragon History. He could feel it.

He went to another hallway and walked into the music room. Jacob wasn’t in there. The teacher was a middle aged, kind woman with black hair. He sat in the back row of risers, away from the other guys, and just listened to them singing songs. Jake was right, this was like chorus!

However, his next period science was boring. They were learning about density. Cody smiled when the bell rang. The smile faded when he entered the gym and nearly fainted.

D was talking to Skylar near the bleachers.

“Hey Cody, you’re still alive!” The twins came over in gym clothes. They smiled at him. “We’re playing dodge ball,” Ross said. “Aye and you can be on our team,” Joss said. Cody smiled. “T-thanks guys, really.”

Both twins frowned at him. “What’s wrong Cody?” They turned at the same time and sighed. “Don’t worry about it,” Ross said. “Yeah he did the same thing to us last year when we came here,” Joss said. “And we won’t let him hurt our new friend!” they said together with smiles.

Cody relaxed. “Really guys, thank you!” He could’ve kissed their feet if the coach hadn’t blown his whistle to start the class.

“Dodge ball today guys! No use of Dragon powers for today! You know what happens when you use them! Ross and D are today’s team captains.” Ross winked before running to the middle of the room next to D. Cody followed Joss to the bleachers.
