The next day, Cody walked into the cafeteria for breakfast and took his seat by Jake. Mr. Opic came over to the boys. “Hey guys. Tyler, I have a new little buddy I want you to take care of. He’ll be your roommate.”Tylergrinned. He had been waiting for a roommate to talk to and hang with.
Mr. Opic gently pushed a small boy forward. He looked about 5 but had to be older. He had russet skin and dark black hair. His hair fell to his shoulders and his bangs fell just to his eyes. His eyes were frightened and a bright blue color that stuck out from his dark skin. He was wearing a dark blue shirt over dark blue jeans.
“This is Tyler and his friends okay? Introduce yourselves. They won’t bite. Well, most of them,” he said, shooting a look at D and Sky. D gave his cocky smirk. Sky stared back lazily and scratched his nose.
Mr. Opic left and they sat in silence for a few moments. “Well, uh, take a seat roomy,”Tylersaid, cracking a grin. The boy sat down nervously next toTyler. “What’s your name kid?”Tylerasked. “Remi,” the boy stuttered quietly. “Cool, I’mTylerbut people just call me Ty.” “I’m Jacob but people just call me Jake.” “I’m Cody but people just call me Cody.” “We’re Ross and Joss, the twins.” Remi stared. He didn’t know which twin was which. “I’m Joss, I have the red bangs.” “I’m Ross, I have the blue bangs.” Remi nodded timidly. “Skylar,” Skylar muttered. “And that’s Eve,”Tylersaid pointing. “And I’m Nick,” Nick added in quickly.
Remi nodded and looked at his feet. “So, uh, how old are you Remi?” Cody asked. “I’m 8,” he mumbled shyly. D took a sip of blood. “What am I? Dead? My name’s,” Cody begged he wouldn’t say Dylan, “D.”
Jake glared. “Hey, uh, D why don’t you go dump your drink? It’s looking a little nasty.” D grinned. “What, you mean my drink of blood everyone has to drink?” Remi looked up and his eyes grew wide and fearful. “D, why’d you have to go and do that?” Joss snapped.
D stood up. “You want to go Joss?” Joss stood up. “Bring it on D!” “Guys stop it!”Tylerbegged.
The others were too busy fighting to see it, but Cody was watching Remi. Remi bit his lip and his eyes grew wide as the fight continued. He shoved his chair back and raced away without being noticed. Cody pushed his chair back and followed the small boy.
Remi had hidden himself in the bathroom. Cody walked in and sat down next to him.
“Remi, are you okay?” Remi shook his head. “I hate them,” he said he whimpered. “The guys?” Cody asked. “No, I hate fights. My parents fight a lot. They try to get along for me but now that I’m gone, it won’t be long before they’re divorced.” Remi hugged his knees up to his face.
“My dad left me and my little brother and sister,” Cody said quietly. “I hated him for a long time but I’m beginning to think it’s because he was trying to protect the family.”
Remi looked up. “I’m sorry,” he said. Cody smiled. “It’s okay Remi.” “Parents are coming to see their kids for Christmas.” Cody had almost forgotten about Christmas. It was just a week away. “We go on break after tomorrow. Mr. Opic told me when he was driving me here.”
