Kawaii-chan could have died, as she peered through the recently-fixed window at Zane's house. He and Jeffrey were sitting on the couch, talking as if they were friends. Okay, sure they were laughing together about Kawaii-chan, but it was progress.
Eagerly, Kawaii-chan took out the camera she always kept with her (in case Reese was around somewhere) and snapped pictures of Jeffrey and Zane sitting together, laughing, before darting off like a scared minnow.
"Did you hear something?" Jeffrey asked Zane quizzically. "I-I thought I heard someone outside your window, Zane..."
"Well, maybe it's a stray animal," suggested Zane, unsure. He stood up to check, peering outside, into the bent and parted bushes, subconsciously noting the strewn leaves. "It's gone, whatever it was... How stupid. So, the other day, do you remember when you showed me how Kawaii-chan was taking pictures..."
Jeffrey laughed, and Zane followed suit. In no time at all, they were talking like old friends, precious proof saved in Kawaii-chan's camera, alongside many others of Reese. Kawaii-chan suppressed a delighted squeal as she skipped into her room, slamming the door shut, eliciting an angry outcry from the direction of Katelyn's room.
Kawaii-chan hummed as she pulled up the picture on her camera, as she held it up to the ceiling, the door slammed open, and Aphmau, came in, wielding a plate of cookies, which she set upon the bed, once she saw the camera.
"I-It's not what it looks l-" squeaked Kawaii-chan, pressing the camera to her stomach.
"No... It is, I should think," interrupted Aphmau, smiling widely. "Zane is making friends! Kawaii-chan... You can't still hate Zane, right... Please, give him a chance..."
"Oh, Kawaii-chan does not," Kawaii-chan assured Aphmau. "She will accept him once he accepts her ship... Zatelyn... Zanelyn? Zatelyn."
"What?" asked Aphmau, tilting her head.
"Nothing! N-Nothing!"
"Mm. Okay. Right..."
As Aphmau left, leaving the cookies on Kawaii-chan's bed, Kawaii-chan pulled up her messages. She quickly texted Katelyn, Meet Kawaii-chan at the maid café in ten minutes, please, Katelyn-sama!! At the table next to the door... Kawaii-chan will bring the keys, no worries. Katelyn agreed, but not before asking, Aren't you at home? To which Kawaii-chan replied, I left, which she had not, but...
Zane-kun, Kawaii-chan needs to talk to you in person. Meet her at the maid café in ten minutes. The table by the window near the door, Kawaii-chan composed next, and sent it to Zane. She received an unhappy confirmation.
Ten minutes later, hiding in the kitchens, Kawaii-chan peered out the door and to the window where Katelyn and Zane were arguing. They went at each other so fiercely, no one wanted to approach them.
"No, she told me to meet her here," Katelyn insisted. "Near the door!"
"Who exactly? Anyway, I bet I was invited first, so..." Zane drawled airily.
"Kawaii-chan, that crazy mief-wa! Who else? Now, if you'll please m-" Katelyn shot back, scowling, only to be interrupted.
"But, she was the one who invited me, as well..." Zane said, confused. "Why would she... Wait a minute! Are we part of a setup...?!"
Katelyn's eyes widened as she took in what Zane was saying. She checked her phone, cursing her ill-fated luck. She'd left her keys at home, assuming Kawaii-chan had brought them. Zane sat, legs propped on another chair, scowling, refusing to leave.
