Barred?

My PoeTRY submission - a plea to be let into the poets pub.

A poet went into a bar.
The barman said, "You're barred".
The poet bade him think again
And not to be so hard.

"Come, come", the poet said to him
"This is the poets' pub".
"Perhaps", the barman's swift riposte
"But you're not in the club".

"The words I spoke are all in rhyme
They have a metre too
I beg you have compassion please
For what more can I do?

"To rhyme and scan is quite OK
But will only make it verse
And getting it wrong de dum, de dum
Can often make it worse."

The poet really lost it now
Crying out with passion
He beat his poet's breast aloud
And in emotive fashion.

"You make your point", the barman said,
"Come across with feeling
Arguing with passion now
Your case is more appealing".

"You showed emotion, bared your soul
I own I've been quite hard
So come on in, what will you have?
For truly you're a bard.
