So another year slithers to a close
And we are counting down its days:
Halloween tomfoolery,
Fireworks; Diwali, Guy Fawkes,
Remembrance poppies
Christmas shopping, office parties
Forced smiles
Big day; stuff ourselves silly
New Year knees up
Then we're done.Too early to put it behind us
But what's done is largely done.Britain's Brexited - doesn't know where it is
America's stuck with picking the least worst
Evil men have done as the evil do
We've buried the dead
And shed the usual tears
We'll finish with this year
Quite soon.
Bring on another
Please.
