"Hey, you know on Skype, how many people can you have a conversation with? Like could you have a four way conversation?" It was about a week after Tara had proposed to me and so far I hadn't told anyone about it. I was at Aunty Morgan's place, just hanging out while Tara was at work, it being the weekend I didn't have any work. We were sitting at the coffee table chatting while Juliet was having a nap when I brought up the topic of Skype.
"You should be able to," Aunty Morgan replied. "Why is that?"
"I've got some news, but I want to tell everyone at once because I don't want to have the same conversation twenty million times," I informed her, exaggerating slightly about how many times I'd have the conversation, but still.
"Ooo, what's your news?" Aunty Morgan asked.
"You'll find out the same time I tell everyone else," I replied.
"Does it have anything to do with you and Tara living together?" Aunty Morgan asked.
"What is this? Twenty questions? And how did you find out about Tara and me living together?" I asked her a few questions of my own.
"I saw Alex in Eastlands the other day," Aunty Morgan revealed the source of her information.
"Well I'm glad she doesn't know my news then," I commented. I was also glad that Aunty Morgan hadn't noticed the ring on my finger, I wasn't trying to hide it or anything, but I wasn't exactly flashing it around either.
"That's not your news? Are you seriously not going to tell me?" Aunty Morgan asked.
"Not until we've got everyone on Skype," I stuck to my guns. We called Nana first and got her to go up to Aunty Casey's place and got her to call us when she was there. Once she had called us back we called my Mum and Aunty Linda to make sure that they were both at home, thankfully they were.
"What's this all about Simone?" Nana started the ball rolling.
"Okay, I can't remember if I told you all this, but last Sunday was Tara and mines first anniversary of when we first started dating," I started off slowly.
"Congratulations," Aunty Linda said. "Is that your news?" She asked, backed up by everyone else.
"No, but it happened that day, I've been learning to operate a catamaran and for our anniversary I took Tara to this nice spot up the river a ways," I continued to set the scene.
"That sounds very romantic," Nana commented and the others agreed. "When did you get so romantic?"
"I don't know, since I started seeing Tara, anyway, while we were out on the catamaran Tara proposed to me and I said yes," I held up my left hand so that they could all check out the rock on my ring finger. "And Aunty Morgan, you are so blind, because I've been here most of the day and you didn't even spot the ring on my finger," I laughed while everyone was in stunned silence.
"Oh my god, my baby's getting married," Mum exclaimed. "Congratulations Mon," Mum added after her out burst. Then Aunty Morgan gave me a tight hug.
"I'm so proud of you right now, Miss," Aunty Morgan said. "Congratulations," she added and everyone else chorused their congratulations as well.
"Thank you all," I said, trying to fight back the tears of joy. "Okay, now that we've got that out of the way, what do you think about Tara?" I asked.
"She'll be a welcome addition to the family," Nana spoke for everyone and they all agreed. At her words I couldn't hold the tears of joy back any longer.
"That means so much to me, Nana," I choked out through the tears. "I'm so happy right now, I'm getting married!" I exclaimed.
"You'll have to let us know when the wedding is," Aunty Linda commented.
