*** Tara's Point of View ***
"Is Simone still in bed?" Jewels asked as she sat down at the other side of the kitchen counter to where I was cooking breakfast for myself and the kids.
"Um, no, she got called into work about four or five hours ago," I informed her.
"Oh, okay," Jules replied. I felt kind of awkward with her just sitting there watching me cook.
"Is Hayley still asleep?" I asked to break the silence.
"Yeah, she was pretty tired yesterday," Jules informed me.
"Fair enough," I replied. "Well, Simmy made up a city tourist guide for you and Hayley," I passed her the folder that had been sitting on the counter in front of me. "Even though Simmy wasn't meant to be working this week, she knew that it was a possibility that she would get called in anyway," I explained.
"Oh wow, this is really detailed," Jules commented as she flipped through the pages.
"Simmy's job is all about the details, so her eye for detail tends to play a role in all aspects of her life," I smiled as Jules continued to look through the folder, remembering the night before Jules and Hayley turned up, and the reason that we hadn't gotten to sleep until the sun came up. Simmy's attention to detail was totally one of my favourite qualities of hers when it came to the bedroom.
'Don't beg no hole in my soul, don't you spoil my sweet charade,' my phone started going off with the personalised tone that I had set for Simmy. 'I get high on the girl, for me she was clearly made,' Jamiroquai continued to belt out Lifeline as I raced over to the other side of the kitchen where my phone was on charge.
"Good morning, sweetheart," I smiled widely as I answered the phone.
"Good morning, hun," she replied, sounding happy to hear the sound of my voice. "I'm just ringing to say good morning and I hope you have a good day," she informed me.
"Thanks, sweetheart," I replied. There was silence for a minute or so. "The case is going to run late, isn't it?" I broke the silence.
"It looks that way, we don't really have much to go on," she replied.
"That's okay, I'll just have to ask your aunty Morgan, or Kate or someone if they can look after the kids while I'm at work this afternoon," I replied.
"Aw shit, that's right, you've got that big op this afternoon, I'll talk to the boss, get him to let me come home and look after the kids until you get home," Simmy suggested.
"No, it's fine, I'll work something out, you need to concentrate on finding out who killed that poor woman," I told her.
"Okay, if you're sure, I just don't like leaving you in the lurch like this," she replied.
"I know, sweetheart. And I am sure, so go on, get back to work," I stuck to my guns on the matter, because I knew that if I didn't then she would talk to her boss and persuade him to let her have the evening off to look after the kids. But her work was too important to just casually take the night off.
"Okay, I love you, hun," she said.
"I love you too, sweetheart," I replied with a smile and ended the call. I turned around to see that Jules had taken over cooking the pancakes for me before they burnt to a crisp. "Thanks for that," I walked over to take over again.
"Sit down, take a load off, I can finish these," Jules offered, so I walked around the counter and sat on a bar stool. "That was a pretty cool ring tone, what was that?" Jules asked after a few moments, as she flipped a pancake.
