-Chapter 11-
The room was so dark that Barrett wasn't sure he had really woken up. "What happened?" he muttered.
"I, I must have been taken here by someone." Groggily, Barrett sat up and reached into his pocket for his phone, but, there was no pocket. No phone.
"Great," Barrett muttered as he discovered he was dressed in something tight, itchy and uncomfortable. As if the fact that he was alone in a dark room and had no way to reach his family wasn't enough, Barrett couldn't remember what had happened to him. Sure, he could remember what his name was and who his family was, but in his mind was a gaping black hole where his memories of the previous day had disapeared. Thinking of his family made him worry about Uma. Had the same thing happened to her? Barrett shook his head, hoping that she was ok. His sister might be a pest sometimes, but she was part of Barrett.
As Barrett's eyes adjusted, he noticed he was in a sort of cage.
"What is going on?" Barrett tried to clear his head, but his memory stayed foggy and unfocused. The last thing he remembered was entering the library... Suddenly, Barrett felt extremely tired. He tried to fight it, but, eventually he closed his eyes and fell asleep.

Doctor Vortex brushed off his hands and set the computer he had been tinkering with down. It was time to see the main victim of his scheme. He walked down a shimmering hall with walls that were invisible if looked at straight on, but visible if seen out of the corner of one's eye. As he walked, the doctor's chest swelled with pride. It was he who had designed this perfect digitalized world. It was he who had come up with his master plan. What couldn't he do? Nothing.
Here, it was this room. Doctor Vortex opened the door with a simple touch of his gloved hand and entered the room to find... the boy sleeping. "Stupid boy! Wake up!" he growled and slapped the boy's face.

Barrett dreamed of a tall, dark man. He was standing over him and shouting. Then the strange man slapped him. "Ouch!" Barrett sat up quickly and rubbed his cheek. It hadn't been a dream after all. Anger overcoming fear, Barrett stood up and shouted at the man.
"What was that for, and what have you done to my sister, you freak?" The man sneered.
"First of all, you may call me Doctor. Second, I have done nothing to your sister yet." Without thinking, the doctor winced and rubbed his shin. Barrett studied the guy who had kidnapped him.
"Uma escaped, didn't she." Doctor Vortex visibly bristled.
"Of course not! I have her under my control, she could die at a split second's notice!"
Barrett smiled. He knew Uma better than that.
"Sure, and I'm the queen of England. You just don't want to admit that she got away from you."
The doctor's face grew red with fury.
"So what if she did! I still have you, and that's what I need!" Barrett's heart thumped with fright, but he tried to seem un worried.
"Well. too bad, because I'm not coming with you, or doing anything for you!" Vortex studied the curly haired boy who was valiently pretending to be confidant.
"You will do what I say." His voice was low and dangerous.
"Or what?"
"Or this." The doctor reached out his gloved hand and grabbed Barrett's wrist. Imediantly, Barrett's mind dissolved into a world of pain. He shouted and squirmed until the doctor let go. Barrett found himself on the floor, the room spinning wildly and painfully around him. Vortex bent over him and hissed in his ear.
"You will do what I say!"
