(Berwald's POV)

I live a honest, hardy life when I can. Most of the days here on this ranch are nice! My father mostly works with crop while i take care of the animals. We only grow and raise what we eat and use and material. The closest town is two days away from here and no one ever comes to visit us.

My best friend is a cow named Isen. He's tame and sometimes lets me ride on his back, I never let him work though. Its mostly me reading on his back as he grazes the field. My dad taught me how to read, and his father before him! My grandfather was a noble, so he had money to teach my father, before he drunk it all away. Now we're here! A beautiful ranch, an honest life thats close to nature, and being able to do whatever! Honestly, Im not sad at all that we aren't nobles or rich, I already love it here.

On my way back to the house, I pick some flowers on my way. Wild flowers. This one is called Smörblomma! If you put it up to your chin and the yellow from the flower reflects on your chin, it means you love butter. And this one is Smultron! They look like strawberry, But their for the birds, so i try to save it for them. This one is spiky, but my dad loves it, Its called Åkertistel. Its a deep green with a spout of dark purple on top! I try to get as much of those as i can.

I run the rest of the way so my flowers don't dry out. I make it to the house and quickly grab a small poetry vase i got for my 7th birthday. I dunk the vase in the bucket of welter we collect every morning and evening to use and put the wildflowers in it. I smile and breath out in relief as i place the vase in the center of the table.

"You really w're panic'n wornt ya?" my dad laughs as he butchers cleaned meat of a deer from his earlier hunt. Its easy to hunt in this aria since you aren't competing with other hunters for food.

"Aye, I didn't Want the flowers to dry 'ut!" I explained, he chuckles.

"Berwald, Ya know that flowers don't dry right aw'y?" I blush out of embarrassment from his comment. I didn't know! I always thought that they live faster then us and just a few minutes of no food is like a week for them! since they die so fast! i thought it was smart!

"Its f'ne Ber, Ya learn someth'n ev'ry day." I get up and stand next to him, clinging to his shirt so he has room to swing his arm to cut the game. I watch silently and he explains how to butcher meat as he does it, as well as the different types of meat on different parts of the animal.

"Son, can ya please cut the veg'tables?" He nods over the the knife as well as the potatoes and carrots.

"y'p!!" I let go of him and go to grab the vegetables and the knife, then go to sit at the table. I carefully cut them the way father showed me how to. I want to become a much of a good cook he is!

"W'ere should i put th'm when I'm d'ne?" I scoop up all of the cut veggies and look at my father.

"Put th'm in the pan ab've the fire, cook them until they look a light br'wn." He said after a moment of thought. I do as he said and put them in the sizzling pan, Getting the wooden spoon from the cooking tools to stir them with.

Once the carrots and potatoes were cooked enough, i took them out of the pan and onto two plates. When i was done, so was father! He took the cooked deer and put one piece on each plate, one for me, one for him. He sits with meat the table and he quickly thanks odin for the deer that he caught. Once he was done, i quickly picked up the meat and took a bite. Hunger is a normal thing to find in a lonely ranch, only raising what you need and eating two times a day, once at sunrise and once at sunset with a day of hard work can be tiring. I still love it. Eating because I'm hungry, it makes EVERYTHING taste better! even that one time in the winter that father couldn't catch a deer and we had to eat mice instead.

"W'll... th't was a good meal w'uldnt ya think?" he said, patting his belly. I nod and do the same. "Ya ti'rd?" He looks over at me. I haven't really thought about it, but the thought makes me yawn. "I'm guess'n thats a Aye!" he stands up and hold his hand out to me. I stand up and take his hand as i rub my eye with my other hand. I reach my bed and i lay down, my dad tucking me and saying goodnight before going to his own bed to sleep.

The moonlight fills the room from the window, the only sound being the sound of wind through the grass, the animals, and bugs. Soon, I drift off to sleep.

Where was I? I know I'm home from whats around me, but its distant, i could only see small figures of my home from far away. Its darker though, like everything is a shade of black with hints of red. i could hear the sound of crying animals in the direction if my farm, and the cry of my father. I started running, but as i ran after and faster forward my home, the farther it got. Untie everything changed and i feel like I'm in the middle of it all. The hay, the fence, my house, the grass around me all blazing with white hot fire that seemed to burn everyone into nothing.

I could feel the warm tears running down my face, and when i wiped them away with my sleeve, They stained it red with blood.

I woke up crying, i couldn't help it, i couldn't stop. It was still dark out, I got up quickly to go to my father to comfort me like he normally does, but he wasn't here.

"FATHER!!" I yelled out, hoping he could here me.

"Out here ber..." i heard him from outside, a tone of sadness in his voice. i run outside to find most of our animals dead on the ground, torn apart. I quickly hide my eyes in my dads shirt as i sob, hiccuping as i hug him tightly.

"Please just tell me this is part of my dream" I mumbled quietly to myself, but when i looked back up the scene, There was still blood.
