Last chapter, we met the Mendozas. This time it's the other way around as the chapter title says.

When RJ found out that he got the contract for this job, he panicked! He was tempted to back out. He wasn't sure if he was ready for this type of commitment. This is the first permanent job he will ever have. He had been travelling around the country, being a locum in different hospitals for the past 5 years. He's also been with 'Doctors Without Borders' for 4 years now and that might be the main reason why he hasn't accepted a permanent job before this. He enjoys going to the remote parts of the world to provide medical care to those truly in need. He liked it that way. No commitments. He can leave whenever he wants.

Truth be told, it was his plan to settle down after med school, with his then fiancée, Lianna. Lianna was his girlfriend for 2 years before they got engaged and they made plans to get married after he graduated.

RJ met Lianna during his third year of residency at Toronto General Hospital where she worked as an emergency room nurse. They bonded over the adrenaline rush that a busy ER usually brings. It was a good 2 years. 6 months after they got engaged, Lianna broke the engagement stating she can't keep up with RJ being constantly out of the province and sometimes out of the country. She stated that she was too young to be waiting for him all the time. Such a petty excuse wasn't it? Yeah, RJ thought so too. That's when he signed up with 'Doctors Without Borders' and he's been committed to his job eversince. Until the 'Vegas Escapade' happened almost 2 years ago. He was in such a happy bubble within those 4 days he spent with Maine that he wasn't able to forget her. Oh he tried! God knows, he tried his damnest! He did everything in his power to forget her but she left such an impact that all the women who came after her did not measure up at all. Cheesy? Sure. Corny? Yes, but it is what it is.

Out of frustration (and restlessness) as well as the constant nagging of his parents, he applied for this job. It was pure luck that he got it cause SMH was desperate to hire new OB's to keep up with the city's growing population. Apparently, destiny has other plans too. Who would have thought that on his first day on the job, he will meet the very same woman who left a mark on him almost 2 years ago. The same woman that left him without saying goodbye. The same woman that he (up to this day) fantasizes about everytime he's alone in his bed and inevitably end up jacking off. The same woman who made him forget about his number one rule: always use protection. Whenever he thinks about her, he can't help but touch himself. Oh who is he kidding! He actually has a permanent boner because she is always (ALWAYS) in his thoughts! He vividly recalls her moans, her sighs of pleasure and her demands in bed. He hasn't been celibate at all after that 'Vegas Escapade' but whenever he is with someone, he imagines that it's Maine screaming his name as he fucks her to oblivion. It's a miracle that he hasn't screamed Maine's name when he's fucking other women. OMG! RJ, the self professed bachelor, pining for a girl? Yes! So what? "Maybe I am getting old and sentimental."

Maine and him have since worked together a couple more times after the 'first meeting'. As much as he wanted to have some alone time with her, the ward had been hell lately. The pregnant women must have heard that there's a new OB in town because it seemed that they all come to deliver whenever he was on call. Oh, but he was aware whenever she was near. He can smell her, like a lion smelling dinner. He would purposely get close to her just to get a reaction. Any type of reaction would do but she always acts professional towards him. Ugh! Such a tough cookie. RJ swears not to give up though *wink, wink*. He has also since learned that Mendoza is Maine's last name and most importantly, she is single! HALLELUJAH! There is hope for him yet! He is still trying to charm Maine's number from Jenny Calderon, Maine's work partner and friend.
