You know that saying "Being nervous isn't bad. It just means something important is going to happen"? Well, that has been RJ's mantra for the last 2 days. He hasn't felt this nervous ever, EVER! He tried to keep himself busy so as not to dwell on what's going to happen tonight but he can't help it. A week after he told his parents of his intention to propose to Maine, they got to have a sit down dinner with Maine's parents. Although RJ was pretty confident that Ted and Maryann Mendoza would give him their blessings, he still felt a little (okay, a lot) apprehensive for fear that their parents won't get along. What if they hate each other on first sight? It's not like that's going to stop him from marrying Maine but he knows how important family means to Maine. If they're parents don't get along, he's sure that would affect Maine tremendously.

When he pulled up at the Mendoza driveway with his parents following close behind, he sent a silent prayer asking for the night to go smoothly. Ted Mendoza opened the front door and RJ introduced his parents to him. Well, that was the start of a great night according to RJ's standards. There were no fisticuffs, no yelling and no threats. The night ended with the promise of both sets of parents to meet up again the week after for a summer barbecue. Before RJ left to head home, Maryann gave him a heartfelt hug and plainly said "thank you, anak. Welcome to the family." RJ felt a little guilty because Maine requested that they keep the pregnancy to themselves for now until after the first trimester is over to which he gladly agreed because he wanted to be able to put that engagement ring on her finger first.

That was 3 weeks ago. RJ didn't mean to wait this long to propose but life just got in the way. Maine is back to work after being on vacation for almost a month. Their work schedule have not really been a match to be able to plan a date night. There were times that he would plan on just winging it but Maine's 'evening sickness' will get in the way. She would prefer to just stay at home and cuddle on the couch. Sebastian also had 3 days of stomach flu so they would alternate in staying up those nights with him. RJ preferred that Maine just sleep on those nights but she cannot be stopped when she put her mind to it. She wanted to be able to take care of her son even if she felt crappy herself.

Anyway, tonight is finally set. RJ placed a reservation to one of the most romantic (hence expensive) restaurants in Vancouver: Market by Jean-Georges; a French restaurant. He had to use the influence of the Faulkerson last name to be able to get a private booth on a Friday night (heh, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do). He wanted the night to be a special one for Maine. He's never, EVER, going to do this again, so he wanted to make it a memorable one as well. He booked a room at the Four Seasons Vancouver and he arranged for Sebastian to spend the night at his parents house in the hopes that Maine and him will get to 'celebrate' after dinner. Emphasis on celebrate. After Maine told him of her pregnancy, fate has also decided to deprive them of their intimate moments. In the last 3 weeks, they must've had sex 5 times tops. Maine tried. She really did. And RJ loved her more for that. However, she's been really sick in the evenings and on her days off, she's always exhausted. Well having to care for a 16 month old will exhaust anyone, anytime, but add her pregnancy to that and she's barely alive by the time RJ comes home from work.

RJ is patiently waiting in the living room, flipping through the channels on the TV while Maine is getting ready upstairs. Sebastian has already been picked up by Rizza earlier to take to their parents house where she is to spend the night as well. He must've checked his inner jacket pocket a hundred times to make sure the ring is still there. He's a nervous wreck. The longer he waits for Maine, the more doubts plague him. What if she says no? Shit! What if she doesn't want to get married. At all! What if she says she's not ready? What then, hotshot? What would you do then, Faulkerson? He resorted to pacing in front of the TV.
